PoGO – Pokémon Go: Mega Gengar as Raid Boss – Counter Guide

It is not yet known when Mega Gengar will appear in the Mega Raids of Pokémon Go, but that it will happen is as certain as the amen in the church. That’s why we’re giving you and tricks as well as recommendations for your fighter team in our counter guide to Mega Gengar, so that you won’t be left out in the rain when fighting the Spirit and Poison Pokémon.

Update from October 20, 2020: The developers of Pokémon Go have confirmed that Mega-Bisaflor will be removed from the Mega Raid pool on October 24, 2020 at 02:00 and replaced by Mega-Gengar. Needless to say, we hope you have fun battling Mega Gengar. Maybe take a Mega Dogemon with you for that ^^

Original post September 29, 2020: The Pokémon Go community has collaborated and done the Temporary Research on the Mega Buddy Challenge, so hopefully you’ll encounter Mega Gengar in Mega Raids in the near future. That’s because once you defeat the Spirit and Poison-type Pokémon, you’ll also unlock its Mega Evolution. It is not yet known when exactly Mega Gengar will be found in the raids with the color-changing eggs; we will inform you then. But you can already put together a powerful counter team to show Mega Gengar who is the boss in the raid.

You can find all the interesting information below in our counter-guide to Mega Gengar in Pokémon Go. One thing in advance: If you defeat Mega-Gengar as a raid boss, you will not catch Mega-Gengar itself in the subsequent bonus challenge, but an untransformed Gengar.

Pokémon Go: Defeat Mega Gengar as a Raid Boss

We already mentioned it: Mega-Gengar is a Pokémon of the Spirit and Poison type and thus cannot be fought any differently than a normal Gengar, if it ever shows up in a Raid. Mega-Gengar has a whopping 65,215 CP as a raid boss, which is best beaten down with at least three trainers – more players are definitely worth it if you want to play it safe. Spirit Pokémon take more damage from Unlight and Spirit attacks, and because of its dual type, Mega Gengar can also be fought by Ground and Psycho attackers.

Although Mega Gengar is boosted in fog, you’ll still want to attack in foggy weather, because that’s when your Unlight fighters like Mega Dogmon deal more damage. If Mega Gengar has Dark Claw and Spook Ball attacks, however, you’re much better off using Unlight, Psycho, and Ground Pocket Monsters in battle than a Spirit Mon. The following counter Pokémon are best. We’ll leave out Crypto-Pokémon, which can be powerful, but are also very expensive to level. So it’s best to grab them:

  • Mega Gengar with Licker and Spookball.
  • Mega Dogemon with Tirade and Parasite
  • Mewtu with Confusion and Psychic Strike
  • Mega-Glurak Y with Fire Whirl and Lohe Cannonade
  • Mega-Turtok with bite and aqua howitzer
  • Giratina (archetype) with dark claw and haunted ball
  • Groudon with clay shot and earthquake
  • Darkrai with Standpauke and Finsteraura
  • Demeteros with clay shot and earth powers
  • Metagross with Zen Headbutt and Psychokinesis
  • Mega Pigeon Boss with Wing Blast and Nosedive
  • Knakrack with clay shot and earthquake
  • Stalabor with clay shot and percussion drill
  • Mega Glurak X with Fire Whirl and Lohe Cannonade
  • Jirachi with confusion and psychokinesis

Pokémon Go: Catch Mega Gengar

As already mentioned, you will not catch Mega Gengar after a victory, but a normal Gengar. If you have successfully completed the battle against Mega Gengar, the freestyle follows after the duty and you have the chance to banish the pocket monster into your Pokéball. Then Gengar has 1,644 CP at level 20 with 100% IV values. If Gengar is boosted to level 25 in overcast or foggy weather, it will have 2,055 CP at perfect 100% IV levels. We wish you the best of luck in the hunt!

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
