About two years after his last appearance in Pokémon Go’s Raids, the powerful legendary firebird Lavados is coming back to the Tier 5 Raids. In the meantime, a lot has happened in Niantic’s game, and that’s why we’ve updated our counter guide to Lavados.
Update from February 18, 2021: The Kanto Tour 2021 starts on February 20, 2021, and with it, the legendary birds Lavados, Zapdos, and Arktos, as well as Mewtu, will enter the Tier 5 Raids of Pokémon Go. They will remain there until March 1, 2021 at 08:00. Since Lavados’ last appearance as a Raid boss, the introduction of Mega Pokémon has changed the optimal counters for the Firebird a bit. For that reason, we’ve updated the counter guide for Lavados to help you rise to the challenge with your Trainer friends! Since Lavados continues to be a very patent Legendary for other raid bosses, you shouldn’t miss the chance! By the way, Lavados learns the powerful attack Sky Sweeper as part of his 2021 appearance.
However, we’ll refrain from using Crypto Pokémon here, as it’s relatively expensive to level them up. But we do include Mega Pokémon in the list of theoretically best fighters against Lavados. We hope you have fun and success beating down the 45,609 CP the bird has as a raid boss; attacking it is best with three or more trainers. By the way, if you’re hunting for a 100% IV Lavados, it has 1,980 CP at level 20. At level 25 (with a weather boost from sunny or windy weather), it has 2,475 CP with a 100% IV value. The best counters for Lavados:
- Rameidon with catapult and rock thrower
- Rihornior with catapult and rock thrower
- Terrakium with catapult and hail of stones
- Despotar with catapult and stone edge
- Brockoloss with catapult and hail of stones
- Aerodactyl with stone thrower and hail of stones
- Mega-Ampharos with volt change and jewel power
- Demeteros with stone throw and stone hail
- Amoroso with stone throw and stone hail
- ALoLa Geowaz with stone throw and stone edge
- Geowaz with stone throw and stone edge
- Mega Turtok with aqua gun and aqua howitzer
Original news from September 15, 2018: Not a week the Lavados Day on September 8, the legendary bird now pays another visit to Pokémon GO s Raids. As part of the Ultra Bonus event, the fire-flying Pokémon will appear as a Tier 5 boss from September 13 to 20 at 10 p.m. CEST, alternating with its fellow legendary bird Arktos and Zapdos. With a little luck, all three birds can also be found in their Shiny variant and once again have their exclusive attacks Sky Sweeper (Lavados), Gale (Arktos) and Thunder Shock (Zapdos) in their luggage, which you already know from the reward days of the three global challenges. According to the Pokémon GO Hub, your chance of catching an iridescent grilled chicken is five percent, which is higher than Lavados’ catch chance of just three percent.
Lavados is considered a lightweight among the legendary raid bosses: Even at its Raid premiere last year, various trainers managed to send the firebird to the mat in just two. After the CP nerf on Lavados Day, Niantic raised the fiery feathered bird’s competition points again from 32,496 to 41,953. The app makers have also changed the rules for Tier 5 Raids with the Ultra Bonus event: Instead of 300, you currently only have 180 seconds to send a legendary boss to the mat. If you still want to try a Duo Raid, you should have at least Trainer level 30, upgraded Pokémon, and a team with the best Lavados counters.
The legendary bird belongs to the two Pokémon types Fire and Flight. Therefore, a bank are rock Pokémon along with rock attacks, with which you can exploit Lavados’ double weakness against this attack type. Water and Electric attacks also deal very effective damage.
The three best counter Pokémon in the fight against Lavados
- By far the best countering monster is Despotar with Catapult (Rock) and Stone Edge (Rock).
- Only after that comes Amoroso with the Legacy Moves Stone Throw (Rock) and Stone Hail (Rock)
- and Geowaz or ALoLa Geowaz with Stone Throw (Rock) and Stone Edge (Rock).
Good counter Pokémon in the fight against Lavados
- Kyogre with Cascade (Water) and Hydro Pump (Water)
- Rayquaza with Dragon Rod (Dragon) and Antique Power (Rock)
- Raikou with Thunder Shock (Electro) and Surge (Electro)
- Lunastein with Stone Throw (Rock) and Stone Hail (Rock)
- Sonnfel with Stone Throw (Rock) and Stone Hail (Rock)
- Mogelbaum with stone throw (rock) and stone hail (rock)
- Garados with cascade (water) and hydro pump (water)
- Zapdos with charge beam (electric) and thunderbolt (electric)
The weather prospects
The toughest battle awaits you in sunny weather, which boosts Lavados’ fire attacks Fire Whirl, Heat Fury, Firestorm, and Heat Wave. In return, both sun and wind raise the legendary bird’s level from 20 to 25, giving you a stronger Pokémon when you defeat and catch the raid boss:
- With level 20 and no weather boost, a captured Lavados has 1,788 to 1,870 WP,
- with weather boost and level 25 over 2,235 to 2,337 WP.
The best raid conditions are partly cloudy weather, which makes your rock attacks hit harder, and rain, which gives your electric and water attacks a boost.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
