PoGO – Pokémon GO: How to make the most of the Dortmund GO Festival (Guide)

In Pokémon GO, the GO Fest will soon begin, which will once again take place in Dortmund’s Westfalenpark. From July 4 to 7, 2019, trainers from all over the world will meet there to catch and trade Pokémon. In our detailed guide, we explain what you need to keep in mind during the event and how you can best prepare so that your hunt for the pocket monsters is guaranteed to be a success.

In a few days, namely from July 4 to 7, 2019, the Pokémon GO Festival will take place in Dortmund’s Westfalenpark. If you are one of the lucky fans who managed to get hold of a ticket for the event, you can look forward to lots of Pokémon fun and cool bonuses. But to make sure you’re prepared for the Pokémon Party and can enjoy the GO Fest to the fullest, we’ve collected a few essential for you – based on an article from Go Hub and recommendations from the Pokémon GO reddit community.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – (Technical) Preparations

Before you jump into the fray at GO Fest in Dortmund, you should prepare yourself:

  • Fully charge your smartphone and take one or more powerbanks with you to refresh the battery on the go. Here the motto applies: better too much than too little – so grab the most powerful powerbank possible (20,000 mAh). Also, take an extra power bank in case you need to help out a friend when their smartphone battery fails.
  • Clean up your inventory and Pokémon storage. That way, you won’t have to waste time during the event because you won’t have room for new Pokémon on your account.
  • The Westfalenpark in Dortmund is a fenced-in area, so you should expect entry and bag checks. In addition, you are only allowed to take limited amounts of food and drink into the park (there are, however, appropriate sales stands on site), dogs, however, are not allowed. Each ticketed adult is allowed to bring one child under the age of ten. For more info on the park, check out the official event website.
  • Take rain gear with you and test it out beforehand so you know what’s best for your Pokémon hunt or what you can still reasonably use your smartphone with. Some trainers rely on rain ponchos, others on normal rain jackets, special waterproof cases for their smartphone or umbrellas.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – The surroundings and the habitats

In total, you can visit four different real-world habitats at Dortmund GO Fest: Rocky Terrain, Mysterious Woods, Steel Factory and Boat Lake. The German Twitter account of Pokémon GO has published a handy map where you can get an overview:

PoGO – Pokémon GO: How to make the most of the Dortmund GO Festival (Guide)It’s also best to find out in advance which places outside the park are particularly suitable for catching Pokémon. Don’t overdo it, though, and give yourself plenty of rest, especially if you have to travel a long way. After all, you want to make the most of your time and not have to pack it in on the day of the GO Festival because you’ve spent the previous day exploring the city.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – The field research quests for Jirachi and the Shinys

The highlights of the GO Fest in Dortmund include the field research quests for Jirachi – but also the hunt for new or exclusive Shinys. If you want to focus on the hunt for Shinys during the event, you’d do well to complete the Jirachi field research as soon as possible so that you can then devote yourself entirely to the Shinys.

If you want to know how to catch Jirachi or what the individual field research quests consist of exactly, you can find a summary below, which we have placed at the end of this article for spoiler reasons. If you’d like to focus on hunting Shinys, take a lesson from the Chicago GO Fest: If new Shinys appear during the event, try to get them as soon as possible! Shiny Abra, for example, disappeared from the game in Chicago after a short time – so you may only have a small window of time, rather than the entire event, to collect certain Shinys.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – Trading Pokémon with other trainers

During GO Fest, you can get certain signs from the organizer on which you can write down if you want to trade certain Pokémon with other trainers. However, Hub recommends that instead of writing the names of the Pokémon you want to trade, you prepare pictures of them in advance and attach them to a sign on your backpack along with your friend code. This way, other trainers will be able to see which Pokémon you want to trade – without you having to be permanently at the trading tent on the event site.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – Buy merchandise early in the day

If you don’t just want to catch virtual Pokémon in Dortmund, but perhaps also grab a merchandise item or two, make sure you buy early. According to reports from other fans, the official sales stands are often sold out early – so if you go around the block to think about it, you might have to go home empty-handed.

Pokémon GO Fest in Dortmund – The Jirachi Field Quests [SPOILER]

Attention: From now on there will be about the field quests for the Pokémon Jirachi!

To secure Jirachi during GO Fest in Dortmund, you’ll need to complete a total of five field quests. Here’s how it works (via Heavy.com):

Jirachi Field Quest No. 1

  • Spin the photo dial at seven Pokéstops or arenas – Reward: 25 Pokéballs.
  • Make three new friends – Reward: ten Sanana Berries.
  • Send three gifts to your friends – Reward: one Super Incubator

Reward for completing the field quest: 25 Poké Balls, 15 Lock Modules, and 15 Silver Sanana Berries.

You shouldn’t have much trouble with this first quest – during the GO Festival, you’ll encounter enough trainers to add as friends and give them the required gifts.

Jirachi Field Quest – No. 2

  • Catch five different Fairy-type Pokémon – Encounter with Guardevoir
  • Capture five different Water-type Pokémon – encounter with Seedraking
  • Catch five different Pokémon of the Spirit type – encounter with Gengar
  • Capture five different Ground-type Pokémon – Encounter with Hippoterus
  • Capture five different Ice-type Pokémon – Encounter with Rexblisar

Reward for completing the field quest: three Super Incubators, five golden Sanana Berries, and five Smokes

Note: The subquests mentioned here are the tasks from the GO Fest in Chicago, which were based on the habitats there. It is quite possible that the types of Pokémon you need to catch in Dortmund will be different – as will the encounters.

For this field quest, you’ll need to catch a total of five different types of Pokémon – catching the same type more than once won’t help you progress. You’ll find the Pokémon most often in their respective habitats, but all types can appear anywhere throughout the event grounds during the GO Festival.

Jirachi Field Quest – No. 3

  • Catch three Ikognito – one star piece.
  • Take a snapshot of Trasla in his GO Fest habitat – 5,000 stardust and optional encounter with Pummeluff
  • Takes a snapshot of Nebulak in his GO Fest habitat – 5,000 stardust and optional encounter with Krakeelo
  • Takes a snapshot of Hippopotas in his GO Fest habitat – 5,000 stardust and optional encounter with Zirpeise
  • Take a snapshot of Shnebedeck in his GO Fest habitat – 5,000 stardust and optional encounter with Palimpalim
  • Takes a snapshot of Seeper in his GO Fest habitat – 5,000 stardust and optional encounter with Bronzong

Reward for completing the field quest: 5,000 stardust, five golden Hihimberries and a Sinnoh Stone

Note: Again, the Pokémon required are subject to change.

You shouldn’t have any problems with Ikognito during the GO Festival – you’ll likely encounter the Pokémon often enough that you can complete this task quickly. To take snapshots of Pokémon in their natural habitat, select the appropriate Pokémon in your Pokémon list and click the camera icon in the upper right corner of the screen. When you do this, another Pokémon may “photobomb” your image – you will then have the option to click on it and catch it.

Jirachi Field Quest – No. 4

For this quest, you simply need to collect the XP reward to start the encounter with Jirachi. As a reward, in addition to Jirachi, you will also get five golden Hihimberries and a Charging TM.

Jirachi Field Quest #5

  • Handles three Pokémon caught within a distance of at least 100 kilometers – three premium Raid Passes.
  • Hatches five eggs – three star pieces
  • Takes three snapshots of Jirachi – one super incubator

This is a bonus quest – you have already caught Jirachi. The rewards are still worth the effort. You should also be able to complete this quest fairly easily – you’re sure to meet enough trainers at the event who have traveled from far away. You already have Jirachi, and you’ll hatch the eggs while you’re on the event grounds.

That brings us to the end of our tips for the Dortmund GO Fest. We wish all trainers on site a good time and lots of success catching and trading Pokémon!

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
