PoGO – Pokémon GO: How to defeat the new EX raid boss Deoxys – counters and tips

According to a tweet from Niantic, Pokémon GO’s brand new raid boss Deoxys will celebrate its EX raid premiere on October 1 and 2. In our guide, you can find out which counter Pokémon are the easiest to defeat and catch the alien.

According to a tweet from Niantic, proud owners of an EX Raid Pass will be able to take on Pokémon GO’s brand-new EX Raid boss Deoxys, who succeeds Mewtu, for the time on October 1 and 2. The orange-blue alien can take on four different forms, but will only appear in its normal form in the EX Raids, according to the in-game announcement. You can find all information about Deoxys’ forms here:

Like its EX Raid predecessor Mewtu, Deoxys also belongs to the Psycho Pokémon type and suffers very effective damage from Beetle, Spirit and Unlight attacks. So if you’ve already visited Mewtu more often or if you’re currently doing the Tier 5 Raids, you can confidently send your tried-and-true battle team into the Raid.

The best counters in the fight against EX-Raid boss Deoxys

  • Mewtu (Psycho) with Psycho Blade (Psycho) or Confusion (Psycho) and Haunted Ball (Spirit, Legacy Move)
  • Despotar (Rock/Unlight) with Bite (Unlight) and Crunch (Unlight)
  • Gengar (Ghost/Poison) with Dark Claw (Ghost, Legacy Move) or Burden (Ghost) and Haunted Ball (Ghost)
  • Absol (Unlight) with Standpauke (Unlight) and Finsteraura (Unlight)
  • Banette (Spirit) with Dark Claw (Spirit) and Haunted Ball (Spirit)

Good counterattack in the fight against EX-Raid-Boss Deoxys

  • Pinsir (Beetle) with Beetle Bite (Beetle) and Cross Scissors (Beetle)
  • Tohaido (Water/Unlight) with Bite (Unlight) and Crunch (Unlight)
  • Hundemon (Unlight/Fire) with Stand (Unlight) and Parasite (Unlight)
  • Scherox (Steel/Bug) with Anger Blade (Bug) and Cross Scissors (Bug)

Useful counters in the fight against EX-Raid boss Deoxys

  • Noktuska (Plant/Unlight) with Low Blow (Unlight) and Dark Aura (Unlight)
  • Simsala (Psycho) with Psycho Blade (Psycho) and Haunted Ball (Spirit)
  • Tengulist (Plant/Unlight) with Feint (Unlight) and Parasite (Unlight)
  • Krebutack (Water/Unlight) with Telltale (Unlight) and Night Strike (Unlight)
  • Good generalists like Rayquaza (Dragon/Flight), Dragoran (Dragon/Flight), Brutalanda (Dragon/Flight), Lavados (Fire/Flight) with Sky Sweep (Flight) attack, Kyogre (Water) or Raikou (Electric).

These are the five attacks that Deoxys (probably) has up his sleeve

Fog is one of the rarer weather effects in many regions, but offers the best raid conditions against Deoxys. Source: Niantic
  • Zen Headbutt (Psycho, Instant Attack)
  • Charge Beam (Electro, Instant Attack)
  • Hyper Beam (Normal, Charge Attack)
  • Psy thrust (Psycho, Charge attack)
  • Thunderbolt (Electro, Charge Attack)

However, according to Pokémon GO Hub, the Raid boss doesn’t do much damage with any of its possible attack combinations. However, the attack list is preliminary and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. Should Niantic once again tweak Deoxy’s attacks as soon as the EX Raids go live, even the order of the recommended counter Pokémon could change again in certain cases.

Weather outlook

Windy Weather raises Deoxys’ level from 20 to 25 and boosts his possible Psycho attacks Zen Headbutt and Psyschub. In return for the tougher fight, you’ll receive a stronger Deoxys should you defeat and capture the raid boss.

The easiest fight is with Fog, which boosts your already effective Spirit and Unlight attacks, but doesn’t give Deoxys any advantages. If you send Pinsir or Scherox into the race, rain will strengthen your also very effective beetle attacks, but also Deoxys’ possible electric attacks Charge Beam and Thunder Bolt. Finally, in cloudy weather, Deoxys’ normal attack Hyper Beam does more damage, but you don’t have to let any weather effect stop you from raiding.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
