PoGO – Pokémon GO: How to defeat Machomei in solo raid – counters and tips

Pokémon GO’s Tier 3 Raids currently feature Machomei, one of the most useful attackers in the game.

Pokémon GO’s current raid rotation features not only the strongest battle Pokémon in the mobile app, but also one of the best pocket monsters in the : Machomei. The Tier 3 boss faces you with 18,144 CP and, as a Battle-type Pocket Monster, takes very effective damage from Psycho, Flying, and Fairy attacks. In order to benefit from the STAB bonus, you should equip your battle with Pokémon of the same type as their very effective attacks.

With the following counter monsters, trainers should be able to defeat and catch Machomei single-handedly in the Raid if they have level 30 or higher and – very importantly – have upgraded their Pokémon accordingly. However, caution is advised in cloudy weather – you can read more about this in the section “The Weather Outlook”. Machomei’s Shiny variant is unfortunately not currently available via the Raids.

The best counter Pokémon in the fight against Machomei

  • Mewtu (Psycho) with Psycho Blade (Psycho) and Psychokinesis (Psycho)
  • Rayquaza (Dragon/Flight) with Air Slice (Flight) and Aero Ace (Flight)
  • Lugia (Psycho/Flight) with Special Sensor (Psycho) and Sky Sweeper (Flight)
  • Simsala (Psycho) with Confusion (Psycho) and Seer (Psycho)
  • Psiana (Psycho) with Confusion (Psycho) and Seer (Psycho)
  • Lavados (Fire/Flight) with Fire Whirl (Fire) and Sky Sweeper (Flight)
  • Guardevoir (Psycho/Fairy) with Confusion (Psycho) and Spell Glow (Fairy)
  • Latios (Dragon/Psycho) with Zen Headbutt (Psycho) and Psychokinesis (Psycho)
  • Metagross (Steel/Psycho) with Zen Headbutt (Psycho) and Psychokinesis (Psycho)

Good countering Pokémon in battle against Machomei

  • Kokowei (Plant/Psycho) with Confusion (Psycho) and Psychokinesis (Psycho)
  • Dragoran (Dragon/Flight) with Dragon Rod (Dragon) and Gale (Flight)
  • Ho-Oh (Fire/Flight) with Special Sensor (Psycho) and Plunge (Flight)
  • Glurak (Fire/Flight) with Air Cut (Flight) and Lohe Cannonade (Fire) or Heat Fury (Fire)
  • Xatu (Psycho/Flight) with Air Cut (Flight) and Seer (Psycho)

These are the five attacks Machomei has up his sleeve

  • Cartridge Blow (Steel, Instant Attack)
  • Counterattack (Combat, Instant Attack)
  • Close combat (Combat, Charge attack)
  • Blast (Combat, Charge Attack)
  • Ram Boss (Steel, Charge Attack)

In the worst case scenario, you’ll be facing a Machomei in the raid with a counterattack and a blast. You will have a relatively easy time against the attacks Cartridge Strike and Melee.

The weather outlook

The best raid conditions are in windy weather, which boosts your Psycho, Flying and Dragon attacks, but doesn’t help Machomei in the slightest. If you use a Glurak for lack of better counter Pokémon, you’ll get more out of its Fire attack in sunny weather.

In cloudy weather, on the other hand, a solo raid is not advisable, as the clouds (in addition to your Fairy attacks) will boost Machomei’s battle attacks. Especially trainers who rely on the glass cannons Simsala and Psiana should rather use their Raid Pass together with one or two other comrades-in-arms. As a reward for the tougher fight, however, you will also receive a stronger Pokémon:

  • At level 20 and without weather boosting, a captured Machomei has up to 1,650 WP,
  • With a weather boost and level 25, a captured Machomei has up to 2,063 HP.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
