PoGO – Pokémon Go: Heatran as Raid Boss – Counter Guide

It’s getting hot again in the Tier 5 Raids of Pokémon Go, because starting on January 12, 2021, the fire bulwark Heatran can be seen in the Raids for a week. We have the latest Heatran counter for you.

Update from December 29, 2020: It wasn’t that long ago that Heatran was last found in Pokémon Go’s Tier 5 Raids – it made its way there in August 2020. But since then, some new Pokémon have entered the game, and that’s why we’ve updated the counters in our guide for Heatran. That’s because Heatran will appear in Raid battles from January 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM until January 19, 2021 at 10:00 AM. If you’re lucky, you’ll even encounter a Shimmering specimen! As usual, we have omitted Crypto Pokémon from our counter recommendation because they are very expensive to level.

Pokémon Go: Heatran as a raid boss

Heatran belongs to the fourth game generation of Pokémon and belongs to the types Fire and Steel, which in turn means for you that it is weakly equipped against attacks of the types Fighting and Water, and even has to take a double beating from Ground attacks, because attacks of this type are twice effective. However, the combination of Heatran also means that it is resistant or even double resistant to any number of damage types, and therefore takes very little damage from such attacks. So don’t even bother to go into battle with attacks of the types Beetle, Fairy, Plant, Ice, Poison or Steel. Rather, limit yourself to attackers with ground attacks to knock down Heatran’s HP.

As for the weather, Heatran is boosted to level 25 in sunny weather – then his Fire Whirl and Fire Storm do an enormous amount of damage. However, this is also when Heatran takes the most of your pocket monsters’ ground attacks. In snow, Heatran is also boosted to level 25, but the fight can drag on because no useful counters are boosted. When it’s cloudy, it’s still worth attacking Heatran with battle attacks, and when it’s raining, with water attacks. Basically, though, you want to reach for the following counter Pokémon for the Raid fight:

  • Groudon with Clay Shot and Earthquake.
  • Rihornior with Clay Shard and Earthquake
  • Rizeros with Clay Shell and Earthquake
  • Sumpex with Clay Shot and Earthquake
  • Geowaz with Clay Shell and Earthquake
  • Kyogre with cascade and hydro pump

Furthermore you can use the following counters:

  • Machomei with counter and balancing blow
  • Libelldra with Clay Shot and Earthquake
  • Kapilz with counter and
  • Hariyama with counter and punch
  • Digdri (ALoLa) with clay shot and mud bomb
  • Lohgock with counter and focus blast
  • Donphan with counter and earthquake
  • Garados with cascade and hydro pump

Pokémon Go: Catch Heatran

If you have successfully completed the battle against Heatran and have the chance to banish the pocket monster into your Pokéball, then Heatran has 2,145 CP at level 20 with 100% IV values. If Heatran is boosted to level 25 in sunny or snowy weather, then it will have 2,681 CP at perfect 100% IV values. We wish you the best of luck in the hunt!

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
