PoGO – Pokémon GO: For the release of Shield/Sword you can get Galar Smogmog - Guide
THOSE: NIANTIC

To celebrate the release of Pokémon Shield and Sword, Pokémon Go now features Galar Smogmog, which can appear from time to time in Tier 4 Raids. Can the pocket monster be played solo? And which Pokémon are best suited for battle? We have a handy counter guide for Galar Smogmog in Pokémon Go.

In Pokémon Go, a new… old… new… Pokémon is loose, namely Galar Smogmog from, you guessed it, the Galar region, which was added to the series with Generation 8 and Pokémon Shield and Sword. The main series game Pokémon Shield and Sword has now been released for Nintendo’s Switch, and that’s why the developers of Pokémon Go are also celebrating the release in their game. For example, with items in the Style Shop, with which you can dress your avatar as if he came back to your mobile Pokémon fresh from a visit to Galar.

In addition, the designers at Niantic have unleashed Galar Smogmog on players for a full hour on November 16, 2019. However, if you thought the mini-event was announced too close to home, you still have a chance to encounter Galar Smogmog in Tier 4 Raids, just not guaranteed. Galar Smogmog now shares the spawn slots for a raid with the other bosses that can be fought on Tier 4. The most important question is: Is it possible to fight Galar Smogmog solo? Nope, you can forget about it. It’s even difficult for groups of two or three. Below, we’ll tell you which counters you should pack for a battle against Galar Smogmog in Pokémon Go.

Pokémon Go: Galar Smogmog as a raid boss

Galar-Smogmog is a Fairy and Poison type Pokémon, accordingly Steel, Ground, and Psycho type attacks are most effective against it. It has 26,106 CP. As an instant attack, Galar Smogmog uses only the Normal Attack Tackle, which is boosted along with Hyper Beam in partly cloudy weather. In sunny weather, the charge attack Heat Fury is boosted; in that case, you should do your best not to attack with Steel Pokémon. The charge attacks Mudbath (Poison) and Cuddler (Fairy) are boosted in cloudy weather. Both attacks benefit from the STAB bonus in that case, so you’ll probably need a few more Enliveners. The following Pokémon are the best counters against Galar Smogmog in Pokémon Go:

  • Mewtu with Psycho Blade/Confusion and Psycho Thrust/Psychokinesis – keep in mind that Psycho Blade and Psycho Thrust are so-called legacy moves that your Mewtu cannot learn by using TMs.
  • Metagross with Cartridge Strike and Star Strike
  • Jirachi with Confusion and Kismet Wish
  • Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Skull
  • Latios with Zen Headbutt and Psychokinesis
  • Stalabor with Metal Claw and Percussion Drill

Furthermore, you can also fill up your Raid Team with these Pokémon

  • Celebi with Confusion and Psychokinesis
  • Latias with Zen Headbutt and Psychokinesis
  • Regigigas with Zen Headbutt and Gigastomb
  • Simsala with Confusion and Psychokinesis
  • Psiana with Confusion and Psychokinesis
  • Galagladi with Confusion and Psychokinesis
  • Tobutz with Confusion and Seer
  • Gengar with licker and psychokinesis (the authors of Pokémon Go Hub advise against using Gengar without Psychokinesis).
  • Scherox with cartridge slash and iron skull (very vulnerable to heat exhaustion)
  • Groudon with clay shot and earthquake
  • Knakrack with clay shot and earthquake
  • Rihornior with clay shot and earthquake
  • Heatran with fire whirl and iron skull

Pokémon Go: Catch Galar Smogmog

If you have successfully completed the battle against Galar-Smogmog and have the chance to banish the pocket monster into your Pokéball, then Galar-Smogmog has 1,310 CP at level 20 with 100% IV values. If Galar Smogmog is boosted to level 25 in cloudy weather, it will have 1,637 CP at perfect 100% IV levels. We wish you good luck in your hunt!

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
