PoGO – Pokémon GO: December Sale - is Special Box, Superbox, Hyperbox worth it?
THOSE: BUFFED

The makers of Pokémon Go have exchanged the contents of Special Box, Super Box and Hyperbox at the beginning of December 2018. Is it worthwhile to access or should you rather wait for a Christmas sale? We explain what is included in the boxes and how much you can save when buying them.

The developers at Niantic have given the Special Box, Superbox, and Hyperbox Pokémon Go new content at the start of December 2018, and it’s time we took a look at whether they’re actually worth it – or whether you’d be better off saving up the Pokécoins. Generally speaking, we can say that the Special Box as well as the Super Box and the Hyper Box offer rather meager content, although the number of Premium Raid Passes has been increased again.

This may be because there is a higher chance of getting Pokémon with high IV from Raids. Another reason could be that there are currently quite a few Pokémon in the arenas that are interesting for the upcoming PvP battles, such as Despotar, Machomei and Gengar. But first, let’s take a look at the exact contents. Compared to the last sale, we have noted in parentheses by how much the number of items has been reduced or increased.

3 x Premium Raid Pass (+1)4 x Premium Raid Pass (+1)12 x Premium Raid Pass (+4)
2 x Star Piece (+2)4 x Lucky Egg (+2)6 x Sanana Berry (+6)

The money saved on the Special Box or Super Box this time around is less than past sales, but of course you can still save. The Special Box is quite good for the starters among you, as usual, but there have been better deals, as the Pokémon Go Hub writers conclude. The Super Box doesn’t look much better either. If you actually want to invest money, then consider buying the Hyperbox. After all, there’s more Raid Passes than previous offerings. The six Sanana Berries might make sense in conjunction with the Star Pieces.

Because as we know, unlocking second charge attacks in PvP costs both candies and stardust. So you can farm a bit more stardust with the star pieces. However, the developers at Niantic were very stingy with the Sanana Berries, and perhaps Special Berries or Silver Sanana Berries would have made a little more sense. If you want to prepare for PvP, then the hyperbox can be worthwhile. However, all three offers are not particularly breathtaking.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
