PoGO – Pokémon Go: 2020 Nostalgia Challenge: Johto – Research Guide

The new Temporary Research Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Johto is live from now until May 15, 2020 at 15:00. We have updated our guide to Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Johto with all the steps and rewards. Too bad: the rumor beforehand that there might be a Shiny Garados as a reward was not true. Ho-Oh can be Shiny for that.

In Pokémon Go, the 2020 Nostalgia Challenge is currently luring players from behind the stove and keeping them busy with a total of 36 steps of Temporary Research in order to flush lots of rewards into their pockets. The highlight of the Temporary Research is, as the name suggests, that the nine steps of the research can only be completed within a certain period of time – that’s why you don’t receive a “call” from Professor Willow for the Temporary Research in Pokémon Go like you would with a Special Research. However, if you complete all of the 2020 Nostalgia Challenge Temporary Research, you will receive the 2020 Nostalgia Challenge Special Research Champ in early June, which will give you Galar Flunschlik. Galar-Mauzi and Genesect. So there’s no reason to ignore the Temporary Researches!

The Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Kanto is still active until May 8, 2020 at 13:00, so you still have time to complete the nine steps, which you can find in our corresponding guide. On May 8, 2020, starting at 13:00 and lasting until May 15, 2020 at 13:00, the Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Johto will be active; another Temporary Research with nine steps that will earn you a Legendary Ho-Oh with the Earthquake attack, among other things. First, we’ll give you an overview of the bonuses that are additionally active during this time, then you’ll find the nine steps for Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Johto in the guide as well as their rewards. Note: Not all steps are known yet, so we will update the overview as soon as possible! However, the pros among you can already stack reward encounters from field research if they want. Excitingly, a guaranteed encounter with a Shiny Garados supposedly awaits you in Step 7!

Update from May 08, 2020: The rumor of a Shiny Garados as a reward has not been confirmed, instead Skorgla awaits you as an encounter in Step 7. The Nostalgia Challenge 2020: Johto is already active (as of 08:00), so we have added all steps and rewards to the guide. By the way, you can find out why there are only 5 special candies instead of the expected 10 here.

The following additional bonuses apply during the limited research:

  • Pokémon from the Johto region, such as Dummisel and Panzaeron, appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokémon from the Johto region can be challenged in Raid battles.
  • The following Pokémon hatch from 7-km eggs: Lampi, Yanma, Girafarig, Tannza, Dummisel, Skorgla, Pottrott, Panzaeron, and Phanpy.

  • If you’re lucky, you may even encounter Iridescent Dummisel!
  • Johto Pokémon appear as rewards in event-exclusive field research projects.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
