Message on the subject:
The PlayStation 5 will soon be given a new firmware update. Some lucky users are already allowed to test the new features in the beta phase. Among other things, the external SSD support via M.2 slot will finally be unlocked. This has now been announced on the official PlayStation website.
While beta testers from the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, France and also in Germany are currently allowed to put these features through their paces, the official release for everyone has not been announced yet.
The memory expansion
Every PS5 owner will sooner or later reach their limits with the meager 825GB SSD storage. Because games like CoD need massive amounts of memory, especially with the regular updates. In addition, the system software and some other functions already occupy a bit of space, which is thus missing for the games.
The memory expansion that will now be possible in the future is supposed to counteract this. Every PS5 already has an additional slot ex works, but it hasn’t been released yet. But as mentioned above, this is supposed to change with the next firmware update. However, it should be considered that not every SSD can also be used for the expansion. Sony has provided a small tutorial on the official site.
The M.2 SSD must be equipped with PCle Gen4 and be able to achieve a read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s.
Furthermore, according to the Twitter user Nibel the following features will also be added:
- Support for the M.2 SSD slot
- 3D audio support for integrated TV speakers
- UX improvements
- a few customization options
- more personalization for the control center
- Friends tab has been updated
- Adjustments in displaying and writing still messages
- PS4 and PS5 games are separated on the homescreen and the library
- Trophy tracker for up to five trophies via the control center.
- Switch between 720p and 1080p for PS Now
Are you guys excited for the upcoming update?
