In Fortnite, many skins have already made it over the counter of the item store. However, some of them were so controversial that Epic Games wordlessly shipped them to the Vault. We’ll show you a skin that is controversial, but still wanted back by many players.
What does “vaulted” mean?
In gamer lingo, the term is used to describe that certain things are packed into a digital vault. This can be weapons, environments, items, but also skins, as in this case.
So the content is removed from the game or from the store, but not completely deleted. There is a possibility that content will return from the Vault – or stay in it forever.
Especially the online shooters Fortnite and Destiny 2 rely on such a “content vault.”
Rue skin is controversial – players still demand it
What is this skin?
This skin is called “Rue.” The character the skin shows is from the agent organization “Shadow” and is one of the villains in Chapter 2 – Season 2.
It has two styles in the colors red and black.
The female skin wears a leather, latex coat with by black long gloves, black boots and devilish red glasses with two prongs. Her coat is decorated by the logo of the organization, which is located on the upper arm.
The skin was last in Fortnite’s item store 544 days ago.
What’s so controversial about the skin?
Players tweeted at Epic Games’ post from April 2020 that this skin reminds them a lot of a Nazi. Apparently, some players see striking parallels to SS officer uniforms in the Fortnite skin’s aesthetics.
Those familiar with Epic Games know that items, dances or skins that have caused problems are indirectly shoved into the Vault so that they can no longer see the light of day in the Fortnite world.
Epic Games has not commented on this yet. Nevertheless, players rumor that Fortnite does this with some items that are somewhat controversial or even frowned upon and could cause problems.
What do players have to say about it?
There is a post on reddit that makes fun of the fact that developers go to great lengths to create items only to have them languish in the vault 2 years later. It becomes clear that many players demand this skin, despite its controversial appearance. One reddit user writes:
It didn’t help that when the skin was released, people were spamming all over the internet that she looked like a Nazi officer. I’m not saying that’s the reason it was vaulted, but still… In this day and age, it’s pretty easy to get ‘canceled’ for any reason.
Another user on reddit also writes:
[…] but no matter how you put it, having a “Nazi” as a playable character makes the game look questionable.
Epic probably didn’t assume here that this skin would have such an impact on the community. It should be clear that the developers of Fortnite want to create a good environment to play with friends and not to glorify such content of fascism.
What do you guys think of the skin? Do you think it’s cool or do you yourself say that such a skin doesn’t deserve a place in Fortnite? Let us know in the comments!
