Players want map rotation like in Apex Legends – eSportsNews eSports CallofDuty

In : , some players want the map rotation of . What a rotation would bring, why players want it and why the feature is unlikely to come, you can find out on MeinMMO.

That’s what it’s all about:

  • The free-to-play “” shooters Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends share basic rules, but are otherwise completely different.
  • While Warzone relies on 2 fixed maps, Apex has a map rotation that regularly swaps the playable maps in the different modes.
  • Players of Warzone also want the map rotation, but are afraid of the consequences for their hard drives.

Map rotation from Apex to come for Warzone

On reddit, players are discussing whether Warzone would benefit from a map rotation like in Apex Legens (via reddit.com). With this feature, there is a regular rhythm that rotates the playable maps and provides more variety.

The thread managed to gather over 2,500 upvotes within a day and is currently one of the biggest topics in the Warzone subreddit.

What is the current situation at Warzone? The Battle Royale has 2 maps on offer:

  • The big main map “Caldera
  • The small secondary map “Rebirth Island

The requests for rotation are primarily about the large main map Caldera.

What is the current situation with Apex? In EA’s Battle Royale there is a lively rotation of maps for the two modes “Battle Royale” and “Arenas”. The maps only a few hours active and change frequently through. On sites like “Apex Legendsstatus.com” you can see when the map will change the next time.

Warzone players want their old map back – chance is small

What do players say? In the discussion on reddit, users interpret the rotation idea in two different ways:

  • One group wants it to be like in the multiplayer of Call of Duty: After each match there is a different map.
  • Others understand the idea in such a way that there is always only one map at a certain time, which is then regularly exchanged.

Some players gripe about Caldera because they feel the map is too empty and they encounter too few enemies. Verdansk, in their opinion, offered more “points of interest” that were closer together and thus potentially more likely to attract a team of opponents.

Others felt Verdansk was “empty” and are ardent advocates of Caldera Island Paradise.

However, most agree that Warzone would benefit from a map rotation. And here lies the crux of the discussion: it is known that somewhere on the developer servers there are the two versions of Verdansk, but only one map can be played – Caldera.

Why do you think the feature doesn’t come to Warzone? There are 2 reasons for that, and it’s hard to get them out of the way:

  1. Warzone’s maps evolve over time and this is an essential part of Warzone’s content strategy. Providing multiple maps with live service would significantly increase the effort.
  2. Warzone is already HUGE. Every gamer should keep a good 200 GB free on his hard drive to be able to enjoy the Battle Royale of CoD.

There seems to be a very large development effort to change things on Warzone’s maps. Major customizations on the maps are the exception rather than the rule.

The opening of the stadium on Verdansk 1 and the ground canyons on Verdansk 2 were the biggest changes to the maps, otherwise the maps remained more or less in their release state. Add to that the large amount of memory required for the warzone content. In the reddit thread, many users independently suggest that Warzone with 3 maps in rotation would probably require 1 terabyte of storage. Their SSD hard drives are already out of breath from the current Warzone.

How would it be possible after all?

Recently there were leaks about a sequel to Warzone. In 2023, there is probably some kind of “Warzone 2”, which will also be released only for the current generation of consoles and PC.

That would probably be the earliest that such a drastic change could be introduced. The latest premium CoD Vanguard shows that Call of Duty games can get by with less memory. The shooter streams high-resolution textures while playing and thus reduces the memory requirements.

However, it is currently impossible to say whether the developers will make a change in strategy on this point. However, you are welcome to write us in the comments what you think about a map rotation.
