The fact that the egg and hatching system in Pokémon Go is not particularly popular has been apparent for weeks and months. For one thing, mainly only uninteresting Pokémon have been hatching from the eggs for what feels like ages. For another, those among the trainers felt fooled by the fact that they could only guess which Pokémon were in the eggs.
Accordingly, the accusation made the rounds that eggs in Pokémon Go are just elaborate loot boxes – because hatching machines are not constantly earned in the game, they are rather rare to get for free. Accordingly, many players buy Poké Coins at face value in the store in order to invest them in egg incubators and super incubators for hatching eggs. In the meantime, the creators of Pokémon Go have implemented a transparency function and show you in the game which monsters can hatch from an egg and what the probabilities of the pocket monsters look like among each other.
Since hatching eggs is a more casual part of the game, it’s actually quite popular … well … when attractive Mon can be stuck in the eggs. Ergo, hatching is popular and many players throw money at the feature in hopes of getting their hands on great as well as rare Pokémon. In particular, promising Pokémon are said to hatch from the 12k eggs you take from Team Rocket’s bullies. Shall. Mostly, though …
Instead of Kapuno and Larvitar there’s Absol, Pionskora and Skallyk
The following Pokémon can hatch from the 12km eggs in Pokémon Go: Skallyk, Larvitar, Absol, Zurrokex, Gladiantri, Ganovil, Pionskora, Kapuno, Pam-Pam and Baldorfish. And for most of these Pokémon, players are already wondering why they even need to be in the eggs that have the longest hatching distance and then are the most “complicated” to get. A Pionskora? A Baldorfish? An Absol?!
The thing is: What you hatch from the eggs in Pokémon Go remains a gamble. And accordingly, the frequent hatchers among you can rediscover themselves in the following Reddit post.
In theory, Pionskora is rarer than Larvitar
So, in theory, are Absol and Pionskora that often in eggs? No, not really, if you believe the data collected by TheSilphRoad’s PoGo community. From just under 3,000 reported 12K matches from the Theorycrafter community, we can deduce the following:
Skallyk is the most common with a probability scratching 205 percent. Baldorfish is the rarest with 3.6 percent chance of hatching from a 12km egg. Ganovil and Kapuno are both around 5 percent, Larvitar even 18.2 percent. In other words, some of the popular Mon are not that rare. But, it must be emphasized: That’s just the theory.
In practice, things usually look different. In addition to the permanent candidate Skallyk, Absol and Pionskora often slip in.
The great deception?
As mentioned earlier, many Pokémon Go players think the eggs, and in particular the 12k eggs, are a scam. But where does this come from? In hopes of getting great Pokémon from the eggs, trainers throw their money at the store for Pokécoins, specifically to buy hatching machines. The chance of getting a particular pocket monster may be slim, but players will still want it (maybe even at 100%-IV), and try again and again. In doing so, they run the risk of throwing their money out the window for a gamble without control.
A solution to this might not be an increased attractiveness of Pokémon Go’s breeding system – although that is very desirable! -but a reliable way to get hatching machines on a regular basis. For example, via a subscription offer. That something like this could be in the works at Niantic, these rumors have been around for months. There would certainly be quite a few players interested in such a possibility to get certain items, which is more independent of the Free2Play luck in the arena defense for Pokécoins.
