FIFA22 Ultimate Team can be very demanding with Rivals and Weekend League. The “#SilverLounge” offered a relaxing change of pace – but that’s not the case anymore, some players say.

What mode are we talking about?

The “Silver Lounge” is actually not a competitive game mode like #DivisionRivals or the Weekend League, but runs within the live friendly matches. Here you can only compete with silver players.

However, it is possible to win prizes for players in the Silver Lounge. There are always tasks that require goals and victories in the Silver Lounge and can earn the user packs or special cards. These include the “Silver Stars”, which bring one card each once a week.

Above all, the Silver Lounge is a possibility to play “unusual” players. Even those who would be much too weak in the Weekend League. Accordingly, in the Silver Lounge you sometimes meet teams that you would not encounter in the proverbial forest of meta-teams in the competitive modes.

However, some players are currently criticizing the development of the Silver Lounge. The reason: an event that wasn’t that long ago.

Are silver meta cards ruining the silver lounge?

What’s the problem?

Recently, a special “Silver Stars” event ran in which there were many powerful silver cards to get in one fell swoop, instead of just once a week. In the form of SBCs or tasks, you could get very special cards. These included, for example:

• A 74 version of Kevin de Bruyne with very strong values for a silver card
• Wylan Cyprien got a card with 74 total, but whose values were all above 80 – so as a silver card he even belongs to the infamous “Gullit Gang”, which consists of balanced top cards.
• Paul Pogba with his 5-star skills was also there.
• There were other strong cards for Reinier from Dortmund, defender Leitsch, Lukas Podolski, offensive player Elanga, Marco Reus and more.

Suddenly appeared crazy silver cards.

In short: many silver players appeared who earned the stamp “meta player” – with high values that set them apart from the “normal” silver cards.

On the one hand, this was admittedly a cool, varied event idea. But now there is a problem with the cards.

In the FIFA subreddit you can follow several discussions that deal with these cards.

Already at the start of the event there were comments like this one: There user “LaLigaDan” wrote: “Looks like my Silver team is completely Premier League after this promo”, to which another replied: “Looks like everyone is. This will be a boring mode in the future” (via reddit).

Now there are voices that sound exactly like this fear:

• User “NoChillGuy17” for example writes: “EA ruined Silver-Stars for this FIFA”. Silver-Stars had been a relaxed mode, with only a few special maps, with a lot of variation in the teams. “Now it’s just turned into FUT Champs 2.0. Everyone has the same group of 7 or 8 players just spamming their elasticos and ballrollscoops while playing 10 deep and hitting long balls” (via reddit).
• Another writes, “I never understood why people liked this promo. Imagine collecting silver stars to get the best team and then EA blows the whistle and releases these cards. One of the worst promos ever in Fifa” (via reddit).
• User “Hyperactive” has a slightly different take: “I mean, the creativity may have decreased in the teams, but if everyone has these teams, it’s still a balanced game, right?” (via reddit).

But the general issue is not a new one in FIFA, and especially in Ultimate Team. Namely, ordinary maps are being outclassed by special versions that are hard to beat if you don’t use them yourself.
