More and more leaks about Diablo 4 are surfacing, as apparently a first alpha is underway. The test is strictly limited and only selected people even get in. Accordingly, leakers are easy to track down. Pretty stupid for this leaker, who has shown heaps of gameplay for Diablo 4, fans think.
What does the gameplay show?
- A few screenshots and even a short clip have surfaced from an early alpha build, showing character creation, difficulty, and even parts of a cinematic.
- In addition, the leaks have already revealed info about Diablo 4’s loot system and item trading.
- The download size should be around 70 GB for the PC.
- Fans have been discussing the shown and actually secret contents, but at the same time they have been mocking the leakers for carelessly revealing their identities.
In the customizations, the quite chubby model of the class can be seen with different genders, skin colors and other customization options. However, the choices for tutorials and difficulties are particularly exciting.
In the tutorial, you can apparently choose whether you want to be guided more or less. New players should therefore be better advised. In terms of difficulty, there are 2 options to choose from in the build shown:
- World Tier 1 “Adventurer
- For new players or those looking for a lighter challenge.
- Opponents are easier to defeat.
- Item drops are “average.”
- World Tier 2 “Veteran
- For veterans who are looking for a challenge.
- Opponents have a higher difficulty.
- Better drops and more gold and experience.
The difficulty should be able to be changed in-game at a statue in Kyovashad. Keep in mind, however, that this is info from an early alpha build. A lot can change between now and beta or release, especially since release isn’t until sometime in 2023.
Recordings have watermarks – player probably gets in trouble
What makes the leaks so bizarre is the watermark. Everywhere you can see that it is the “Private Test Build 508546”. For Blizzard, this is something like the tester’s business card, since the number can be used to clearly assign a tester.
The leaker himself does not seem to know that he is subject to a non-disclosure agreement (“NDA”) for the alpha. In the clip he says, “I don’t even know if I’m allowed to stream this.”
On reddit, some Diablo fans wonder how anyone could be “so stupid.” They also ponder what penalties might be in store for the leaker, and for the person who invited him. Conjectures range from exclusion from this and other tests to job loss for the advertiser.
Users also point out that people are always reminded about the secrecy. We don’t know ourselves what penalties the testers will get for breaking this NDA.
The leaked content quickly disappeared from Twitter and co in the original, but was uploaded to other platforms shortly after and has been circulating ever since. It remains to be seen whether there will be more leaks – but we suspect that they will be more closely monitored.
