Curious methods of bringing a character to the maximum level abound in World of Warcraft. But the Youtuber Dr. Five has chosen a very special way to level up: He killed boars, boars and more boars in the game.
Dr. Five took the South Park episode Make Love, not Warcraft and leveled a character in WoW: Classic to level 60 by gaining experience exclusively by killing boars.
Make Love, not Warcraft
Although Dr. Five based his Boar Challenge on South Park, he couldn’t reach the maximum level just like Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny only by killing boars in Elwynn Forest. The reason: low-level enemies eventually no longer grant experience points.
What rules did Dr. Five use to play the Boar Challenge? Dr. Five imposed certain rules on himself for the Boar Challenge:
- He may only kill boars – this includes the spiny livers in the hill of the blade tusks (without them the challenge would not have been possible in Classic, according to Dr. Five).
- He may not be helped by other players.
- He may not gain experience points by doing quests or killing other enemies.
- He may approach the challenge with a rested character (double experience points), but otherwise not use XP bonuses.
How long did the whole thing take? It took the Youtuber 9 days and 18 hours of in-game play time to level up a character to level 60 by killing boars. Because he says he has a full-time job, the entire challenge took about two months. In the process, he killed a total of 10,655 boars.
Dr. Five described the Challenge in retrospect as a “extremely boring”which made it difficult for him to persevere at all. He uploaded videos of the entire level progression to YouTube – including some hangry breakdowns and tantrums.
If you feel like it, you can watch the footage in a playlist – but Dr. Five cautions that watching all the videos would be more insane than the challenge itself.
Of herb pickers and iron men: More curious WoW level challenges
If you have heard of insane and funny level challenges in World of Warcraft you can’t get enough, take a look at these variants:
Leveling by collecting profession – The factionless pandar Double Agent cracked maximum level 120 in retail WoW in October 2018 by mining herbs and ores exclusively on the Pandaren starting island. The Pandaren became so famous that Blizzard created a monument to him in the Order of Monks Hall with WoW: Legion in the form of the NPC Venerable Shaman.
Leveling via pet fights – A player leveled a night elf in WoW: Legion to the then-maximum level of 110 exclusively through pet battles, with nearly 800 pets reaching level 25.
Leveling with the Iron Man Challenge – The wowchallenges.com website offers players the opportunity to participate in various leveling challenges, including the so-called Iron Man Challenge. The Iron Man Challenge consists of bringing a character to maximum level without dying. In addition, you can only wear equipment of maximum white quality, among other restrictions.
