It’s not always the best weapons and the fastest reflexes that bring victory in Call of Duty: Warzone. Often it is tactical considerations that bring an advantage and success. One player has now proven this once again impressively and perfected the tactic of “playing dead” in Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone is basically a survival game – whoever lasts the longest rides to victory. Something similar is true in nature. Living creatures developed ingenious strategies to ensure their survival. Some players like to take a leaf out of their book and use survival tactics that have worked for millions of years.
One of these tactics is playing dead. Animals like the American opossum lie down motionless in front of their predators and thus do not want to look like a tasty snack, but like an old piece of meat that has already had its freshest days. This way they can scare off enemies that aren’t into decaying carrion meat. This also works in Warzone.
Player pretends to be dead and outwits even observant enemies
What does it look like? On the reddit discussion platform, user “Dutton90” shared a clip of falling for one of the oldest tricks in the world:
What happened? In the enemy’s situation, immobility would actually be death. Normally in Warzone, you can distinguish quite well which players are still with you and which are just remnants of a battle. But the enemy does it just perfectly and seems to have practice in playing dead.
Dutton runs up the stairs and sees the supposed corpse lying in the corner. He runs past, but then gets damage from the direction of the “corpse” and takes another, searching look at the motionless body. Dutton even sights the enemy briefly and need only have pulled the trigger. But the enemy looks dead – no doubt about it. And Dutton keeps running.
He’s dead … isn’t he? Nope.
Suddenly, the enemy in the corner comes to life, leaving Dutton little chance. He still manages to break the deadman’s armor, but the warzone possum’s advantage is just too great.
Why did that work? Motionlessness works quite well as stealth in shooters like Warzone. Our eyes are conditioned to an enemy’s movement because enemies are actually always moving somehow. Together with good camouflage, you can definitely outsmart your enemies on a regular basis.
But at the short distance and with the glowing bandana, these are actually not the best conditions for good camouflage. The strange position on the flower pot makes the trick so ingenious. The neck and the head of the deader are in a position that strongly reminds of dead bodies in Warzone because of the strange position. When walking by quickly, and even when checking the enemy a second time, it is not immediately obvious that the enemy on the flowerpot is still alive.
As a result, the dead man actually appeared as if he had already fallen. A piece of carrion with which one’s stomach would be upset. Bad luck for Dutton, who falls for the nasty trick and says: “Most of the time I hate this game”.

What do the players say? On reddit, the clip is pretty well received and stands at over 4,000 upvotes and more than 150 comments after just under 2 days. Many commentators emphasize how funny they find the clip:

Tactical approach and a good knowledge of warzone mechanics can give you great advantages over your enemies for sure. Playing dead is certainly an unusual tactic and also not always practical. But it can work, and so can other little tricks you can use to trick your enemies’ senses. For example, there is also a simple parachute trick that you can use to acoustically deceive your enemies.
