Umoja
Of the four Terran supercarriers that carried many thousands of Terrans to the Koprulu sector, two had to make an emergency landing on the strange and wild planet of Umoja. One ship, the Sarengo, suffered critical system failures and was destroyed on impact. She tore a huge canyon in the planet’s surface, in which all 8,000 passengers perished. At least the Reagan was able to land safely. When the crew members awoke from their cryosleep chambers, they found themselves in a truly alien world. The sky over Umoja was a copper-red hue, the air was thick with a faint spicy scent, and a profusion of unknown life forms roamed the fertile grasslands and plains.
As Umoja’s settlers spread across the planet, they soon adopted a social and democratic form of government that later became known as the Umojan Governing Council. The council’s philosophy was to always recycle all resources, thereby preserving the native flora and fauna. When Umoja first came into contact with Tarsonis and Moria—the Terran colony worlds settled by the remaining supercarriers Nagglfar and Argo—a fertile era of open communication and thriving trade began. Relations between the colonies soured, however, as Tarsonis kept urging the planets Umoja and Moria to unite under the banner of a common government.

The two colonies steadfastly refused, and eventually Tarsonis and his allied planets founded the Terran Confederation, a corrupt government dominated by an elite minority – the Old Families.
The Umojan Governing Council was initially wary of the Confederation’s growing influence in the sector, and two significant events confirmed the council’s fears. First there was the Guild Wars, a bloody conflict between the Confederacy and the Kel-Moria Combine. The war ended with an unequal peace treaty, in which the Confederacy claimed nearly all of the Combine’s mining guilds. The leaders of Umoja took this result as a grave insult, and much to their dismay, the outcome of the war ensured Confederation dominance in the sector.
The other event was the assassination of Angus Mengsk, a Confederate Senator on Korhal IV, who countered the government’s tyrannical policies. In addition to maintaining close personal ties with Angus, the members of the ruling council had secretly promised to support the rebellious senator in his fight against the Confederacy.
Specifically, in response to the Guild Wars, the Governing Council held an emergency meeting and established the Umojan Protectorate. This political organization was made up of representatives from Umoja and the surrounding colonies who united against the Confederacy’s expansionism. Umoja was the main planet of this new organization and remained the seat of the Governing Council, which absorbed into its ranks the members of the allied colonies and became the governing body of the entire Protectorate
The Protectorate publicly opposed numerous violations of the Confederacy’s rights in its territory, but no declaration of war was made. That was because the Confederacy faced other difficulties. Most severe was the crippling guerrilla war that Arcturus Mengsk waged against the despotic establishment, eventually leading to its collapse. When the Terran League rose to power after the fall of the Confederacy, the Protectorate sided with the new government. The League Emperor Arcturus Mengsk was well known on Umoja. His father was the late Angus Mengsk and his son Valerian Mengsk was also the child of Umojanerin Juliana Pasteur.
Since then, the Protectorate has been ideologically opposed to the League and is generally regarded as a safe haven for individuals seeking shelter from pursuit by Mengsk’s forces. The League is aware of this fact and has taken measures designed to undermine the sovereignty of Umoja and the allied planets. It imposes trade embargoes and uses assassinations to attempt to silence dissidents in the territory of the protectorate. Aware of the League’s vastly superior military might, the Governing Council has worked in secret to maintain its independence. In recent years, the Protectorate has focused its resources on advanced technological research,
Whether the League will ever take more vigorous action against Umoja or his allies remains a perennial point of debate, even among members of the Governing Council. Regardless, they have unanimously decided to continue their subversive activities and stand ready to do whatever is necessary to preserve the freedom of Umoja and the other planets in the Protectorate.
Starcraft History
The story of Starcraft is getting more and more extensive. Already the first part and the expansion Brood War offer a lot of reading material. In addition, there are numerous Starcraft books. With Starcraft II, the story is expanded significantly. On this page we offer a lot of information about the complete Starcraft story. How the three races were created is listed here in chapters. This starts with the chronicles of Starcraft 1 and goes all the way to the campaigns of Starcraft 2.
In our summary of the Starcraft 2 prehistory we have listed information from fairs and other sources.
If you would like to know what happened in certain time intervals, our Starcraft timeline is just right for you. The most important events are listed there.
Protoss Tribes
Although the Khala demand that the Protoss abandon their old tribal communities and accept the new castes of Judicators, Templars and Khalai, many still cling to the customs and relics of the old traditions. The various tribes remain intact only to serve as a cautionary reminder of the mistakes of the old Protoss. With the rise of the Judicators as the ruling caste over all Protoss, the old dilemma of separatist tendencies and tribal claims is no longer a threat to the community as a whole. The most important aspect that has survived from ancient times is that each Protoss tribe has its own unique skin color, which can range from mottled grays to a deep blue.

Terran Factions
Starcraft History | Protoss Tribes | Terran Factions | Zerg Races Each of the various Terran military factions benefits from the advanced hardware and weaponry produced by the colonies in the Koprulu sector. Numerous factions modify their weapons based on the particular characteristics or preferences of their fighting troops. Most Terran tanks, aircraft, and war machines were developed and produced by private corporations, but the plans and technical blueprints for them have since been stolen, smuggled out, and bartered away, ending up in the hands of scientists from a wide variety of political factions and groups.

Zerg Races
Little is known about the various races that make up Zerg swarms. Terran scientists have begun to document and classify some of the larger races that have ravaged their colonies. What seems clear is that each particular race/breed is descended from a unique Cerebrate that carries out the commands of the Overmind. Each cerebrate has the power to build its own brood to carry out its tasks. While it is difficult to distinguish one brood from another, Terran scouts believe they have found that they vary in functionality and purpose. It is considered proven that certain races work so closely together as if they were intertwined extensions of a larger tactical force. Terran researchers have given the races names of monsters from ‘ancient Earth’ mythology.
