New Folsom
New Folsom is inaccessible, unstable and lethal to most heavily armored military spaceships. The planet owes this to its uneven orbit, in which it passes two large asteroid fields at the same time.
Due to its rich mineral resources, attempts were made to set up mining colonies, but the first three attempts failed. New Folsom had the greatest concentration of catalytic elements in Confederacy territory. These are required to forge Neosteel. The government was determined to establish a base on the planet’s surface. An expert team of materials specialists and terraforming engineers has been conscripted to the task. They spent many months developing a platform system that could flex and move with the unpredictable planetary crust –
- Population : 3,500 Terrans
- Affiliation : Terran League
- diameter/gravity : 6,391 km; 1.3 standard units
- Axis inclination / climate : 3.7°; +/- 51°C (average, peaks >800°C), very low humidity
- Geography/Large Settlements : 4 continents (variable), 97 volcanic craters, 9 mountain ranges (all volcanic), 53 lava lakes, 3 lava seas (variable)
- Moon(s) : 1 – Sue (blue, small, 792 km diameter)
- Predominant terrain : volcanic landscape
- Dominant Lifeforms : Terran (Terran League)
- Native Life Forms : None
- Imports : food, water, ammunition, medical supplies, prison construction parts
- Exports : unrefined ores, minerals
and all in an environment where human workers were “barely survivable.” Accordingly, the project was not without high human and financial losses. Eventually, the New Folsom Confederacy Mine was constructed on one of the planet’s more permanent lava lakes. It was soon producing the materials the Confederacy needed to begin building a new fleet of heavy cruisers.
Not long after the mine was completed, the same catalytic elements were discovered on the distant (but far more hospitable) planets of the Sara system. The expensive facility on New Folsom was suddenly viewed as a colossal waste of government funds. It was quickly given a new purpose. The Federation’s financial advisors could not sit idle for long on such a costly facility.
The government needed a place to take dangerous enemies of the Confederacy who were too valuable (or popular) to kill. New Folsom presented the perfect opportunity for this. The mine was turned into a high-security prison, and the planet itself provided deathly punishment for anyone who tried to escape. With this free labor at the mining machines, requiring only a small unit of robotic armor to keep them safe, New Folsom now serves two purposes: it’s a cheap source of essential materials, and it’s also a terrifying political prison. The mere threat of being sent to New Folsom is enough to silence many would-be rebels.
The League also now uses New Folsom Prison, although many of the regime’s founders and members of the Sons of Korhal endured hardships there during their rebellion against the Confederacy. Regardless of political affiliation, it seems that the possibility of threatening an opponent with imprisonment in a hellish inferno is too tempting to resist.
Starcraft History
The story of Starcraft is getting more and more extensive. Already the first part and the expansion Brood War offer a lot of reading material. In addition, there are numerous Starcraft books. With Starcraft II, the story is expanded significantly. On this page we offer a lot of information about the complete Starcraft story. How the three races were created is listed here in chapters. This starts with the chronicles of Starcraft 1 and goes all the way to the campaigns of Starcraft 2.
In our summary of the Starcraft 2 prehistory we have listed information from fairs and other sources.
If you would like to know what happened in certain time intervals, our Starcraft timeline is just right for you. The most important events are listed there.
Protoss Tribes
Although the Khala demand that the Protoss abandon their old tribal communities and accept the new castes of Judicators, Templars and Khalai, many still cling to the customs and relics of the old traditions. The various tribes remain intact only to serve as a cautionary reminder of the mistakes of the old Protoss. With the rise of the Judicators as the ruling caste over all Protoss, the old dilemma of separatist tendencies and tribal claims is no longer a threat to the community as a whole. The most important aspect that has survived from ancient times is that each Protoss tribe has its own unique skin color, which can range from mottled grays to a deep blue.

Terran Factions
Starcraft History | Protoss Tribes | Terran Factions | Zerg Races Each of the various Terran military factions benefits from the advanced hardware and weaponry produced by the colonies in the Koprulu sector. Numerous factions modify their weapons based on the particular characteristics or preferences of their fighting troops. Most Terran tanks, aircraft, and war machines were developed and produced by private corporations, but the plans and technical blueprints for them have since been stolen, smuggled out, and bartered away, ending up in the hands of scientists from a wide variety of political factions and groups.

Zerg Races
Little is known about the various races that make up Zerg swarms. Terran scientists have begun to document and classify some of the larger races that have ravaged their colonies. What seems clear is that each particular race/breed is descended from a unique Cerebrate that carries out the commands of the Overmind. Each cerebrate has the power to build its own brood to carry out its tasks. While it is difficult to distinguish one brood from another, Terran scouts believe they have found that they vary in functionality and purpose. It is considered proven that certain races work so closely together as if they were intertwined extensions of a larger tactical force. Terran researchers have given the races names of monsters from ‘ancient Earth’ mythology.
