Pfff … can also be done in 34 minutes!

Recently, the European guild Progress from WoW: Burning Crusade Classic was able to set a new, very impressive speedrun record. After just 34 minutes and 50 seconds, all six bosses from Sunwell Plateau were on the ground, defeated.

The Sunwell Plateau from WoW: Burning Crusade Classic was, for many players and guilds, the crunchiest raid instance of the Classic re-releases so far (we’ll leave out the Championship – Season , as it’s hard to compare). Nevertheless, there are now a very large number of raids that Kil’jaeden since the opening of the instance on May 12, 2022. have been able to defeat – 10,188 raids to be exact (source). Another 1,767 guilds are currently gnashing their teeth at the final boss. Another 3,031 are stuck with the nastiest bouncer in WoW history: M’uru.

Progress with new speedrun record

A few weeks left for these communities to clear the TBC Classic content. The Wrath of the Lich King Classic Beta is currently in the second content phase. According to a leak, the release will apparently take place in September 2022. Meanwhile, other guilds that have already played Sunwell up and down – and we already know this from WoW Classic and the previous raid tiers from TBC Classic – are trying speedruns.

The most recent record was set on June 28, 2022, when the European guild Progress, narrowly beaten by Chinese rivals Old School in the World First race, completed the Sunwell Plateau in just 34 minutes and 50 seconds (source). The previous record was 37 minutes and 11 seconds (by Noobs Horde). In the aforementioned World First Run, the last battle ended after 51 minutes and 5 seconds.

How Progress mastered the record time

In the following video by Sarthe you can watch the run, accompanied by the comments and observations of the Classic enthusiast.

First trick: The imps at the entrance area are first banished and then taken over by warlocks, which gives a huge DpS boost. Also pay attention to the speed at which the raid pulls the numerous trash groups at the beginning. A particularly tricky trash group will have the first battle rush/drumming phase very early on to get the Sunwell guards out of the way as quickly as possible.

Four Restoration Shamans and a Discipline Priest were used as healers. A paladin and a druid took on the tank role. As for the damage dealers, it was the five Warlocks and the Mage who had a lot of fun first. However, a Furor Warrior ended up doing the most damage (3,314 damage per second).
