released their tactical shooter on June 2 and the game has already received the first few hundred reviews on Metacritic. The opinions are… mixed.

Valorant spent a few months in closed beta and definitely had some problems. From server issues to the Vanguard anti-cheat program to various in-game bugs that were to be expected during a beta. The release of the game took place on June 2 and brought a new map, a new agent, a new game mode, a and a lot more.

With the release came the first feedback about the finished game. Valorant was bombarded with negative reviews on Metacritic on the same day of its release.

Whether these were genuine reviews from some of the closed beta testers or a disgruntled mob from a rival FPS may never be clear. Some posts are quite short and simply insult Valorant, while others go into detail and often compare it to CS:GO. Riot’s anti-cheat program, Vanguard, is also criticized in the comments:

“I would rate this game 5/5, but having the anti-cheat program run at the kernel level is just a bit too much.”

Vanguard has caused numerous issues during the closed beta and may continue to do so. These include crashes, freezes, lower FPS in other applications, and BIOS issues that can even disable PC cooling.

“The final nail in the coffin for me was the anti-cheat software Vanguard, root level software is NEVER! okay and it interfered with the software my motherboard uses to monitor CPU/GPU temperature and fans accordingly, and caused some other games to freeze and crash because Vanguard denied access to them and assets were moved to memory.”

However, as with any story, there are two sides, some of the reviewers are called trolls, while others claim that the game was overrated on Twitch. It’s true that Valorant broke the viewership record on the streaming platform mainly because everyone was trying to get a key to the closed beta by watching streams. The reviews on day one were mostly negative, resulting in an average user score of 3.2.

However, after a tough first day, things improved considerably. Valorant currently has a user score of 5.4, and the number of positive reviews is greater than the number of negative ones. At the time of writing, the game has not yet received a Metacritic score. In comparison, CS:GO has a Metacritic score of 83 and a user score of 7.4 – is at 91 and 6.5. Presumably, Valorant will also approach a similar score over time.

Will the positive trend continue? Will the initially negative reviews even be deleted?

What are Patchnotes?

Patchnotes are specially designed to appear only in the appropriate places.

What is Valorant?

Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.

Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.

The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.

Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
