Riot released another update for Valorant with patch 1.02. It brings some changes for agents, weapons and maps, while adding some new features.
We have already predicted most of what Valorant patch 1.02 has now brought. Today we’ll take a look at some of the most important changes in the latest patch.
Agents
Viper
- Toxic Screen/Toxic Screen now burns through walls and places valves on all allowable surfaces (e.g., the floor) along its entire length.
Riot: “Viper’s Toxic Screen is a potentially-powerful line-of-sight interruption tool, but access to it has been fairly, well… modest, making it useful in few places on most maps. This should allow Viper to disrupt sight, maps, and other unique areas to either lay a false trail or grab an area.”
- Snake Bite/Contamination: damage taken makes a player vulnerable for a short time.
- “Vulnerable is a debuff that doubles the damage taken.
- Note: Total damage dealt remains unchanged (damage is reduced, but increased again by “Vulnerable” – thus keeping the balance).
Riot: “Due to the fact that Viper inflicts “Decay” on opponents with her smoke clouds, but only deals moderate damage to blocking opponents with her area damage ability, it was hard to punish a push through. With the Vulnerable debuff, Viper’s team should gain a big advantage when opening fire on advancing enemies.”
- Poison Orb/Poison Sphere activation cooldown increased: 0.5 sec >>> 0.6 sec.
Riot: “We like Viper’s unique ability to create one-way smoke clouds, but in some places this created areas where advancing bordered on suicide. So an extended window should keep this ability viable without ruining the entire strategy.”
Jett
- Blade Storm is now reset if Phoenix is killed with it during his rematch.
Reyna
- Soul Orbs will now appear when Reyna kills Phoenix during his revenge.
Cypher
- Fixed a bug where Spycam/Spycam was preventing spike disarming.
- Fixed a bug where players could place a Cyber Cage/Cyber Cage on a trap wire.
- It now prevents the spycam/spy cage from passing through teleporter doors on Bind when placed on the outside of the frame.
Smoke fine-tuning
- Adjustment of screen effects when entering and leaving Clouds of smoke
- Reduction in glare reduction
- Reduced restriction of vision
Riot: “The previous adjustment to smoke clouds overly penalized players who dared to go through and take a calculated risk. As a result, they were used as a powerful defensive stopping tool. Marching through a smoke cloud will still be risky, but in a more appropriate way.”
Weapon Modifications
Bucky (right click)
- Accuracy when walking crouched: 3,45 >>> 4,1
- Accuracy while walking: 6,4 >>> 4,4
- Accuracy while running: 3,5 >>> 6,4
Riot: “We discovered an unintended inconsistency in the application of movement inaccuracies to Bucky’s right-click. We had introduced this in closed beta when we added a delay to players who had slowed down from running to walking. However, this made the right-click much more accurate than intended while running. We have now fixed this issue so that running with right-click is significantly less accurate than walking or standing still. We’ve also increased the inaccuracy of crouched walking to better match the degree of evasion it gives.”
Ranked Mode
- With this patch, ranked mode makes its way into VALORANT. Changes since the closed beta:
- Updated rank icons
- New name for the highest rank: Radiant
- Differences in player level in ranked games with friends can now be larger
Map Updates
Haven
- Garage doors
- Entrance to Long C on the attacker side
- Cover in Lobby A has been redesigned to make the area more open, allowing for more sight lines as well as ways to walk through.
- C Connection
- A Connection
- Access to A sewer and lowest level of A sewer.
Ascent
- Defender spawn entrance
- Attacker side of A Haupt (with climbing to get another angle as attacker on A Haupt)
- Garden Entrance
Bind
- A Bath input
- B Teleporter output and B Window input
Split
- Defender Spawn

What are Patchnotes?
Patchnotes are specially designed to appear only in the appropriate places.
What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
