Overwatch: Crossplay is live – Here’s how the feature works

The developers of have officially released the new crossplay feature as a beta version. We explain how crossplay works in Overwatch and what you currently have to keep in mind.

Until now, if you wanted to play Overwatch with friends, you had to be on the same platform as your buddies. There was no so-called cross-play function. That has now changed, however, because a corresponding feature is now available to players of the Blizzard shooter in a beta version. However, console users have to keep a few things in mind, which is why we will explain the official crossplay feature of Overwatch in more detail in this .

Overwatch: Crossplay on all platforms

Basically, the crossplay of Overwatch works (buy now 49,49 € )ou can play across all platforms, i.e. between PC, Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. You can play together with players from all over the world – with the exception of China, which forms its own region. PC players don’t have to pay attention to anything else when it comes to crossplay. Console players, however, will have to link their system to a Battlenet account from now on – regardless of whether they want to use crossplay or not.

To link an existing Battlenet account to your console, follow these steps:

  • Launch Overwatch on your console.
  • Press the corresponding button that appears on the Welcome screen.
  • You will now see an alpha-numeric code and a QR code.
  • You can enter the alpha-numeric code on the associated Blizzard website or scan the QR code with your smartphone to be redirected to this website.
  • On the website, log in with your Battlenet credentials to link your console to the account.
  • You will receive a notification when the link has worked.

The Overwatch developers have also released the following notes about the crossplay feature:

  • You can disable crossplay if you wish, but then you may have to wait longer for matches.
  • You will receive a golden lootbox on any system you play Overwatch on, even if the systems are linked to the same Battlenet account.
  • You cannot transfer your game progress from one platform to another.
  • There will be no stat or rank reset with the crossplay launch.
  • There will be separate leaderboards for PC players, crossplay consoles, and non-crossplay consoles.
  • When you add a friend in Overwatch, they automatically become your Battlenet friend.
  • If you choose not to use the crossplay option, you will not be able to see your Battlenet friends in the Overwatch friends list.
  • Bans only apply to one platform, not the entire Battlenet account.
  • Aim-Assist only works in the player pool where console users are playing against each other.
  • Crossplay is available in all game modes except competitive matches.

Overwatch 2 Will completely replace part 1 – no more 6v6 rounds

Is this still a sequel? Overwatch 2 will completely overwrite and replace part 1. 6v6 matches will also disappear then, for example.
