The story of Overwatch streamer FRAN shows how much the streamer life on Twitch can wear on you and how toxically female streamers are still treated. FRAN will no longer play Overwatch and is putting her streaming career on hold.
Francine ‘FRAN’ Vo has become one of the most popular Overwatch streamers with nearly 250,000 followers on Twitch. The Toronto Defiant player recently announced that she is turning her back on Blizzard’s multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch. One of the reasons is the fuss about her stand on NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). In the past, FRAN had touted NFTs and received some criticism for doing so. Particularly in the gaming scene, the Non-Fungible Token are viewed very negatively.
According to a tweet, in which FRAN claims that the No. 1 traded NFT is actually produced by the Overwatch team, the headwinds from the community became too much for the Twitch streamer. She is ending her streaming career and will no longer touch an Overwatch game. Overwatch 2 is also out of the question.
NFTs not the only reason for the end of their streaming career
She apologized in a lengthy Twitlonger from January 24, 2022 For the tweet and her replies. In the longer message to her followers, she talks about the difficulties she experienced when streaming. “Streaming for me was not as easy as it may have seemed.”
“I’ve been harassed almost every day since my Franplayshalo days, whether it was a creepy comment or completely unwanted pictures in my DMs. I was constantly criticized for my appearance, which led to massive insecurities and low self-esteem.
Toxic Twitch users took down the next streamer
“The extreme loneliness and unhealthy habits I developed from streaming have done a lot of damage to me. And Don’t even get me started on the bullying. My entire self-esteem was dependent on likes and numbers. I wish I never had to experience that again.”
Toxic viewers didn’t make streaming easy for her. In the future, she wants to take care of family first. “I’ve already mentioned in the stream that I’m moving home to take care of my parents, especially my father who had a stroke and subsequent seizures,”

FRAN leaves behind a legacy of Overwatch content and has etched itself into the game’s history. But at least for now, we probably won’t see her in public again.
