Of MeinMMO readers, only 6% are staying behind in World of Warcraft Classic. The rest move on or at least want to experience Outland as well.
World of Warcraft Classic players will soon face a momentous decision: They will have to weigh whether to transfer their character to an eternal Classic-era realm or move on to Outland in Burning Crusade Classic. There is also the option to clone the character and play in both versions: An offer whose cost Blizzard has now drastically reduced, after much negative criticism of the $35 price.
But our survey revealed: so many of you don’t even want to play Classic anymore, or at least dual-track.
55% switch completely to Burning Crusade Classic
Of the more than 2,100 respondents to the survey, over half chose to have all characters transition to the Burning Crusade Classic era without exception. This is apparently what makes it most appealing to most players. After two years of Classic, the old game seems stale and the new one in the form of Burning Crusade beckons.
However, it has to be said that already at the launch of Classic many players said that they hoped to be able to play Burning Crusade on an official realm again someday. That these players now get their wish fulfilled and therefore move on immediately is hardly surprising.
The second largest group in our poll has stated that they don’t play WoW Classic anymore – and probably won’t start anytime soon. 27% of you (577 votes) have turned your back on WoW Classic. However, there was also someone in the comments who explained that he was only taking a temporary break – he only wanted to return with WotLK Classic.
We had already analyzed in more detail why players stopped playing WoW Classic in a previous survey.
12% of players want to take advantage of the new character copy and have a foothold in both WoW Classic and Burning Crusade. These players enjoy both the original variant of World of Warcraft (with minor improvements through Classic), but at the same time want to dive into Outland again.
Only a minority is attached to WoW Classic alone
The smallest group of players in our survey wants to commit completely to a Classic realm. Only 122 votes fell on this option – that’s just under 6% and thus a clear minority. Even if you exclude the group of players who don’t play at all anymore and thus only consider the still active players, this amount only rises to just over 7%.
Most want more than Classic
Most of you are either moving to Burning Crusade Classic or have already quit. Only a small group wants to be in both games, and an even smaller group wants to focus entirely on Classic.
How it comes to this result and the change of mind of many players, everyone can probably only answer individually for themselves. There can be many reasons for this, such as:
- One wanted to experience Classic live only once, since one was not yet there at that time.
- Classic didn’t turn out to be the experience many gamers were hoping for after all.
- Classic was a nice game, but it only managed to excite for a while.
It seems clear, however, that the group of Classic enthusiasts who want to stay in Classic forever – at least among our readers – makes up only a small group.
