Not Yet at 100 Percent

G2 is at the top of the LEC table right now. Top laner Broken Blade talked to us about why they are so strong right now. The first week of the LEC is over and G2 has already picked up three wins. So so far, nothing stands in the way of defending the title. Top laner Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik is convinced that it will stay that way.

The Mid– Season Invitational as a Learning Process

G2 was able to win the LEC in the Spring Split and thus also participate in the Mid– Season Invitational (MSI). There, they faced the strongest teams from around the world and were able to take a lot from that as well. “Of course, when you play against the best in the world, you learn, your character does more damage than the ones in . And then you think to yourself, okay, why is that? Because he just gets the full potential out of the champion,” Broken Blade explains, “You just learn stuff like that because you don’t have that kind of experience in Europe.”

But after this learning process, the team first needed a long break, which also affected the training days. “We had, I think, four days to train. And of course that’s nothing if you compare it to the other teams. I think they had two to three weeks of training before the split, which is actually normal,” said the top laner. “But we just wanted a longer break and I think the break was also very very good for us, so we are not burned out and that we can give 100 percent again. I think we’re not even at 100 percent yet, to be quite honest. That’s why I still have a lot of expectations of what can come,” says the LoL pro optimistically.

1st place is the goal

Even though the LEC has just started, Broken Blade has of course already thought about his goals and those of the team. First and foremost, he would like to achieve first place, as in the last split, but he is also already thinking about the Worlds. “We think as a team we should have achieved more than we did now at MSI and of course that is our goal. We want to be first again and go further internationally, at the Worlds, than before,” Broken Blade explains.

To achieve that, G2 needs to stay in top form. The top laner is convinced that their biggest strength will help them do that: “We have very experienced players and if one of them doesn’t have a good game, the other one will be there for it and carried, because of course we are a team. The fact that we can do that is of course something very valuable in a team, I think. It just feels good to be able to play in a team like that.” Whether this will be enough to win the LEC, however, won’t be known for a few weeks. Until then, however, the team still has a few games ahead of them. You can watch them again on the LEC Twitch channel or the German co-stream.
