Pokémon GO players have been wishing for an in-game chat feature since the game’s inception. So far, however, this wish has never been taken into account by Niantic. Now, however, there is hope that this function will finally come.
What is it about? Many players have been criticizing the lack of communication between trainers in Pokémon GO for several years now. This is especially relevant for time arrangements for raids, friend level ups or for the luck exchange.
Since there is no such function in the game so far, numerous trainer groups have established themselves in the social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, but also via instant messagers, such as Discord and WhatsApp. But now Niantic wants to get away from these external arrangements and gives hope to the trainers.
What happened? Niantic announced that a new mobile game called “TRANSFORMERS: Heavy Metal” will be released later this year. In the course of this presentation, Niantic explained details about the new social feature to the renowned website Bloomberg:
“Niantic is also introducing new social features in its games to allow players to coordinate their meetings, which they currently do mainly through Discord and Facebook,” the article reads (via bloomberg.com).
Thus, the assumption of reddit users is NEAR that there will be a chat function in Pokémon GO in the future (via reddit.com). It is not yet known when such an in-game chat will be available and what it will look like.
Ideas and wishes of the community for in-game chat in Pokémon GO
However, users on reddit already have their own ideas and wishes about how this chat function could look in the game. For example, one trainer writes that he would like to see a real chat in Pokémon GO so that he no longer has to resort to external groups (via reddit.com). These regularly cause his game to crash.
Another player, on the other hand, suspects that Niantic will merely limit itself to prefabricated phrases for an in-game chat. (via reddit.com) This scenario does not seem so unlikely for some users. One argument for this is primarily child protection.
As the user Stockings Booby also writes on reddit, Pokémon GO is still played by many children (via reddit.com). An unrestricted chat feature might be too risky for them. In fact, Niantic has to pay special attention to this target group.
Nevertheless, many are holding on to the desire that there will be a solution on the part of Niantic for this. Because with a chat function in Pokémon GO, some trainers also see the chance to get in touch with other players they don’t know personally, but have in their friends list.
Already since the launch of the game, such a chat function is desired. In 2018, it was among the biggest wishes among players for 2019 in Pokémon GO.
What are your ideas and wishes for an in-game chat in Pokémon GO? And what platforms do you currently use to communicate with other trainers? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments here at MeinMMO.
