The new – Season of Rainbow Six: Siege is about to start. We have already presented the two new operators Kali & Wamai in detail (and playable on the TTS), but the update also brings many other changes. We summarize the most important new features of Shifting Tides here.

Limb punches

Rainbow Six: Siege changes the shooting physics with the new – Season and enables bullet penetration of limbs and entire operators in the future. The reason for the changes is the new powerful Sniper Rifle, which makes short work of up to four enemies with just one hit.

What was the problem? Until now, bullets could penetrate thin walls, but not body parts of game characters. This was especially problematic with stun grenades: blinded operators hold their hand in front of their face and thus fend off actually deadly head shots.

What’s new? Ubisoft introduces bullet penetration in three different levels to make the weapon classes more comprehensible and largely eliminate inconsistent situations in headshots. The three bullet penetration classes are:

• None: Weapons do not penetrate body parts (shotguns, secondary weapon MPs such as the SMG-12, C75 Auto, etc.).
• Easy: Bullets penetrate arms and legs and hit vital body parts behind them (primary MPs, assault rifles, pistols, LMGs).
• Full: Shots penetrate (multiple) operators and hit players behind them with 30 percent less damage each (snipers, shotguns with slug ammo like BOSG 12 or TCSG 12)

Jackal update

Probably the most banned attacker in the whole game finally gets his long announced update. His scanning ability now depends on the age of the footprints and there are some other changes to his gadget as well. We have summarized what the Jackal rework looks like in detail in a separate article.

Playlist update

There are some changes in the game modes with Shifting Tides. Here are the most important new playlist features of the new – Season :

• Casual is now called Quick Match: The renaming is purely cosmetic, nothing changes in the rules.
• Role Swap as in Ranked: In Quick Match and the Newcomer Playlist, the AA-DD rhythm as in Ranked is now introduced, players switch sides only once per match.
• Skyscraper flies out of Ranked: The Skyscraper map will no longer be part of the ranked map rotation, instead the completely revamped Theme Park will take its place.

Cheaper operator

With the introduction of new operators, older DLC characters will once again become cheaper. The further back the release of a hero, the cheaper it becomes. Here are the new prices for the reduced operators for the release of Shifting Tides:

• Hibana & Echo: 10,000 Renown/240 R6 Credits
• Dokkaebi, Vigil & Zofia: 15,000 Renown/360 R6 Credits
• Nomad & Kaid: 20,000 Renown/480 R6 Credits
