New restrictions on returning group loot

When WoW: Battle for Azeroth abolished the Loot Master and made Personal Loot the only option, many players were happy, but the majority of raiders saw the change less positively. The targeted equipping of individual characters was hardly possible and there was the fear of getting a lot of useless loot. The developers introduced various rules relatively quickly, with which loot can be passed on to other players, but practice shows that even today these are not fully understood by every player.

With WoW: So now sees the return of the party loot, albeit not in the form of the loot master and only as an option in raids. Instead, bosses will once again drop a certain number of random items, which can then be rolled among players. Exactly what the system will look like is currently unclear. According to the developers, there will no longer be a classic loot master, but the group can still decide to a certain extent who the loot should go to.

New restrictions for the group loot

However, the developers seem to introduce some new restrictions. Because in the data of WoW: Dragonflight now an entry was found, which points exactly to it. It is a string from the alpha-builkd 45141.

  • LOOT_ROLL_INELIGIBLE_REASON6 – You already have a powerful version of this item.

This strongly suggests that we will not be able to roll on items that we already own at the same or higher item level.

Unlike the current restrictions on “passing” items, however, it seems that it is not the item level on the slot that is relevant here, but really the item itself. This is one of the big criticisms of the current system. If an item is much worse, even though it has a higher item level than the worn item, you can’t pass it on.

So if a better item drops, you can roll on it even if you are carrying a higher item level in that slot. As long as it’s not the same item. It will be interesting to see to what extent tertiary values are included in the evaluation. However, it is not possible to roll away items that you obviously don’t need (e.g. to give them to your friend in the group).

What do you guys think of this restriction or the return of group loot in general? Is this a good decision by the developers or should it have been left at Personal Loot in raids as well, which should still be a selectable option? Let us know what you think in the comments.
