It’s been almost two years since a group of former Blizzard developers founded the studio Frost Giantto develop “the next great real-time strategy game”. Almost 10 million euros in budget is at their disposal for the project. At Summer Game Fest 2022 there was finally first info about and a CGI trailer for Stormgate.
This is what we know about Stormgate
In the official announcement, the hard facts for the new RTS read as follows: “Stormgate is a free-to-play real-time strategy game set hundreds of years in Earth’s future. Take command of the human resistance fighters, the demonic invaders, or other factions to be announced – individually or together. Build your base, harvest resources, and lead massive armies into battle to emerge victorious.“
At the announcement, Production Director Tim Morten immediately made it clear: Yep, Stormgate will be Free2Play. However, there will be no NFTs or any Pay2Win elements, only cosmetic stuff that you can optionally buy. With this payment model, the developers want to keep the entry barrier as low as possible.
It is also clear that the developers want to put the social component in the foreground. The campaign (which will be continuously expanded with new chapters) can be played solo or in co-op, and in addition to the usual 1vs1 duels, there will also be 3vs3 – even at Esports level.
