Already a few days ago, the next part of Call of Duty, which is supposed to be released this year, became a bigger subject of the rumor mill. In the Microsoft Store showed up an entry for a title called “The Red Door”. According to the description, it’s a shooter that takes up 81.65 GiByte on the hard drive.

The download was also partially successful and quickly made it clear that it was indeed a probably internal alpha version of the next Call of Duty game, which accidentally appeared in the Microsoft Store for all to see. Once the game was installed, it was listed as Call of Duty: Black Ops CIA in the program list. According to the speculations, CIA has no relation to the content, but probably just stands for “Closed Internal Alpha”. However, it could just as well be a reference to the first part of the Black Ops games.

Its story revolves around fictional CIA black ops operations and is set in the Cold War period. The Battle Royale mode of the current Call of Duty already has references to the first Black Ops game, and a new leak also supports the theory of a sequel with reference to the former predecessor.

The new Call of Duty Black Ops offshoot has been given an epithet, Cold War, which has already made the rounds. The source of the current rumors is the official logo of the game, which can be seen on leaked marketing material of the tortilla brand Doritos. A photo was shared by the Twitter account Call of Duty News, among others.

However, only an official announcement will provide real clarity in the end, and that is still a long time coming at the moment. With a targeted release in the third quarter of this year and in view of the approaching arrival of the next-gen consoles in stores, it shouldn’t take too much longer for Activision to come clean. Sony’s rumored PS5 event in August is a good opportunity to unveil Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.
