Streamers invest their time to entertain other people online. But many viewers use that to troll the streamers. A Korean streamer experienced this first-hand when she suffered a nasty action from her viewers for 3 hours in a League of Legends match and was even banned by Riot Games afterwards.
Many viewers are grateful for the entertainment provided by Twitch streamers and YouTubers. However, there are also numerous who engage in shenanigans instead. From comparatively harmless pranks to really dangerous actions like swatting, the trolling individuals often have every means at their disposal.
On reddit, there is now a story going around about a Korean streamer who was trolled by her viewers while playing League of Legends. So-called stream snipers took their chance and made life difficult for the streamer.
What is a stream sniper? A streamsniper is a person who watches a live broadcast of a streamer while they are playing in the same match or on the same server.
Often this is done to gain an unfair advantage over the streamer and to know what they are doing, how they are playing, and where they are. The knowledge gained from the stream is used by stream snipers in this case to find an easy victim in the streamer and, for example, to scam an easy kill without much effort.
Streamsniping is forbidden in many games and on many servers, is considered unfair and is often punished with a ban.
How was the streamer trolled? According to a reddits post, the streamer suffered from so-called streamsnipers who were in her League of Legends match and had a mean plan: the meanies kept the streamer’s Ranked match going for over 3 hours.
Two of the Streamsnipers were probably on the streamer’s team and stopped the attempt to abandon the match. Two had been on the opponent’s team. Together they prevented the end of the match and dragged it on and on.
Why was the streamer banned? By keeping the match going for over three hours and being on both teams, the streamer accumulated over 120 in-game deaths. According to u/Ichsterb, the meanies reported her using Riot Games’ report system for “negative behavior & intentional losing”.
In addition, the streamer could not have simply left the match or she would have received a ban for leaving early as well.
However, it’s not just the Korean streamer who suffers from stream snipers. Just recently, xQc, one of the biggest Twitch streamers in the world, was wrongly banned from a DayZ server because he was attacked by a stream sniper.
