Nameplates in TBC Classic have greater distance – eSportsNews eSports WOWTBC

WoW Classic will soon get its expansion with The Burning Crusade – for the second time, so to speak. However, TBC Classic will not be exactly as it appeared 14 years ago. There will be some changes and one of the newer ones is good for all players.

This is the change: The developers have announced that the distance of the nameplates (“Nameplates”) in TBC Classic will be increased. Instead of being able to display enemy nameplates only 20 meters away, as before, it will now go up to 41 meters.

The feature should have been in the game even earlier, according to Blizzard, but the developers ran into technical limits at the time (via Blizzard). In the beta, you can adjust the distance smoothly between 0 and 41 meters with the following command:

  • /script C_CVar.SetCVar(“nameplateMaxDistance”, XX)
  • XX is a number between 0 and 41 in meters

A similar command worked for a short time in WoW Classic, but was deactivated after some time. In TBC Classic, the function is supposed to be implemented by default.

WoW TBC Classic Nameplates

At the moment you still have to get pretty close to the enemies to see the badges. A beta patch should change that.

What does the change do? Many players are used to recognizing or targeting enemies via their name badges through the new WoW or addons. At just 20 meters, however, it’s hard to tell which enemy you’re facing. So the change helps:

  • when leveling, to make quest mobs easier to spot
  • in PvE in dungeons and raids to see enemies better
  • in PvP for more overview of the battle

Mages and hunters should be especially pleased here. The two classes have the highest range in the game at 41 meters and can now also see the badges of the enemies they are attacking before they get significantly closer.

TBC Classic will not be like 14 years ago

That’s still changing: Although TBC Classic is supposed to be as close to the original as possible, there are some changes to the game compared to before. Most of them are mainly quality changes, though the balance is also being tweaked. Among the most important differences:

  • Paladins of both factions have access to the seals that were normally reserved for Horde (Seal of Blood) and Alliance (Seal of Retribution).
  • Arena teams can now contain twice as many players as the roster they play in (about four players in 2v2)
  • Drums leave a tinnitus debuff that prevents them from being used for two minutes

The discussion about whether TBC Classic should remain completely the same or receive changes has occupied the community since the announcement. At least the nameplates have been received positively for the most part (via reddit).

When will TBC Classic be released? On June 2, you can once again walk through the Dark Portal and explore Outland. The pre-patch already starts on May 19th. There you can even play the new races of the Blood Elves and Draenei to prepare a character.

With TBC Classic, you can choose to continue playing your Classic character until level 70 or copy it so that it exists in TBC and Classic. However, this will cost you money. The cost has greatly angered the community and in response Blizzard has reduced the cost by 50%.
