In World of Warcraft Classic, the rules of the game world are still a little different. Here, there aren’t as many ways to implement “one-hit combos” – but a few combinations do exist. The infamous Paladin Rextroy has made it his mission to find and exploit these mechanics to surprise a few unsuspecting players – and he can even do it as a quasi-naked Paladin, equipped only with a weapon, helmet and trinkets. And lots of explosive toys.

What does Rextroy do? What he does best: Terrorize other players a bit in an amusing way. He sits down apparently afk and almost naked at some frequented street in the game world. On a PvP realm a naked player of the opposite faction, who is also afk, is a found food. It’s like a little “honor snack” that’s just waiting to be quickly collected.

But in fact Rextroy is not afk and is just waiting for this moment. As soon as he is attacked, he launches a combo that completely knocks many a player off their feet. Almost 3,000 to 4,000 points of damage can be inflicted in a fraction of a second.

What kind of effects are used there? Rextroy, as usual, combines a whole range of effects and explosive items that engineers or other professions can make:

• Helmet of Fire – A leatherworking helmet that has a “use” effect and hurls a small fireball at the target.
• Goblin Bomb Dispenser – A trinket that summons a small bomb that explodes at the nearest enemy.
• Goblin Pioneer Charge – A consumable item that deals high damage.

Added to this is a talent that Rextroy exploits to maximum efficiency:

• Reckoning: after the Paladin is the victim of a critical hit, his next automatic attack hits multiple times. This buff can be stacked up to 5 times, so that a single hit hits 6 times.

Combined with Seal of Command, that’s so much damage that cloth bearers are almost knocked off their feet by it alone.

What’s so nasty about that? First of all, the spontaneous invisibility caused by the “Gnomish Concealment Device” is nasty. Because it makes it look like Rextroy just “phased away” to enter a battlefield. Most players will have been all the more surprised when Rextroy pops out of invisibility a few seconds later and simply blasts the attacker out of existence in a fireworks display of effects.

However, this is not a permanent, efficient farming method. This is mainly due to the fact that invisibility alone has a one hour cooldown. So the whole fun thing can only be done once per hour, and even then requires some preparation time and luck, since individual effects can be resisted.

So if you’re out and about in Classic and see a supposedly defenseless, naked AFK paladin sitting in the street … better give it a wide berth.
