Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – this year’s installment of the successful shooter series – will include a single-player campaign, but the highlight for most of you is likely to be the multiplayer once again. The reinterpretation of the classic from 2009 is supposed to reissue some popular maps and also take over various other elements from the original. Of course, the little-loved matchmaking feature SBMM is also included again, but it should be less negative this year.
CoD: Modern Warfare 2 has SBMM, but supposedly less intrusive
What is SBMM anyway? SBMM stands for “Skill-Based Match-Making.” As the name suggests, the feature puts players with similar skill levels into a match. This has always been the case in ranked matches, but the technology is also being used more and more in other modes. Online shooters are regularly criticized for SBMM – this doesn’t just apply to CoD, but as the industry leader, the franchise is naturally under particular scrutiny.
That’s why SBMM is so critically discussed in the CoD community: SBMM has become a topic of discussion especially in the last few years, although the feature has existed in CoD since 2007, i.e. since Modern Warfare (via eSports). However, the system is working more and more effectively, making the effect more noticeable. The problem: Balanced games can be fun, but sometimes it’s just fun to compete against weaker or stronger opponents.

This is why balancing will be better in MW 2 according to known CoD leaker Ralph’s Valve softened a little bit. Only absolute beginners as well as real professionals should remain among themselves in the future to prevent frustrations. The large mass in the middle, on the other hand, is to be mixed more colorfully again. Those who play well for a while will not be “rewarded” immediately by being assigned better opponents.
The problem with the “Smurfs”: So-called “smurfs” should also be handled better. These are players or players with a secondary account. In this way, they can trick SBMM and be matched with weaker opponents despite a high skill level. The system should be able to detect such violations and replace the affected players with bots during a game.

The story is supposed to be about a worldwide fight against drug cartels. Activision talks about the most ambitious CoD of all times.
