Mini-Event Kicks Off After GO Fest

Pokémon GO is currently running the grand finale of , but Niantic seems to have a special surprise for you. Some trainers are now reporting about a mini-event after the event. We at MeinMMO took a look at what it’s all about and which monsters you’ll get.

What’s happening in Pokémon GO right now? Today, August 27, 2022, Pokémon GO is hosting the grand finale event for GO Fest 2022. After the popular event was celebrated particularly extensively this year and brought 3 live events in addition to a global event weekend in June, it is now to come to its glorious end.

But some trainers now report that it will continue with a mini-event directly after the finale and suspect that this is a teaser for the upcoming – Season .

These monsters bring you the mini-event

At 6:00 p.m. local time sharp, the GO Fest grand finale comes to an end. Or maybe not? As trainers from previous time zones now report on reddit, there will be a special mini-event after the closing event.

So idriskitforabiscuit writes in his post that in New Zealand immediately after the event, at 18:00, countless spawns of Lunastein and Sonnfel appeared. But none of the monsters are listed by Niantic on any of their event pages. For this reason, idriskitforabiscuit is asking the community if this could be an unannounced mini-event.

What are these Pokémon? Lunastein and Sonnfel are two rock and psycho Pokémon from the 3rd generation of games. They visually resemble a moon and a sun. Together they can be found in the game only at special events.

Outside of these periods they spawn in different regions, which they change with the summer solstice and winter solstice respectively. There they can be found mainly at night. The two Pokémon do not have any advancements or evolutions.

Lunastein and Sonnfel each normal (left) and as Shiny (right).

What do the other trainers say about the spawns? idriskitforabiscuit is not alone in suspecting a mini-event, as other trainers have made similar observations. They also saw countless spawns after the final event, and not just for a few minutes. You can read the following reports in the comments (via reddit.com):

  • goodtimes37: “45 minutes and it’s still not over. It’s like I’m being punished and told to take a break.”
  • CeratogyrusRSA: “An hour and 5 minutes into GO Fest and still spawning Lunastein and Sonnfel.”
  • cable_girl: “A very high percentage of these spawns came until about 7:30pm and then it started to die down a bit. It’s now 8:30pm here and we still have the occasional one of each nearby, but for the most part it’s now back to the normal spawns”

So you can already look forward to a somewhat longer fishing experience this evening. With a little luck, you might even encounter a Shiny. But why does Niantic bring such special spawns after the event at all? That’s what some trainers are asking themselves and have shared their theories on reddit.

This could be the reason for the spawns

Many trainers on reddit are puzzling in the comments why Niantic even brings such spawns after such an important and especially big event. It is quickly clear to many that this must be an announcement of the next – Season . The reason for this is, among other things, the events of the past few days.

What has happened in the last few days? If you play through the second special research under the name “A Radiant Reunion” to the end, you will find a special clue in the texts.

The Pokéminers, a group of dataminers, already discovered this in the game code a few days ago, fueling speculation about a possible release of four new legendary Pokémon.

Professor Willow tells you about his experiences in Ultra-Space, according to which he was surrounded by a presence “warm as the sun and calm as the moon”. For many trainers, it was immediately clear that this must be Solgaleo and Lunala, two legendary monsters from the 7th generation of games.

With another discovery of 3 new mega-developments, in which also space pictures played an important role, the assumption of a possible coming Ultra-Space– Season became louder.

What does this have to do with the mini event? Since nothing is known about the new – Season yet, some players might imagine that Niantic is teasing the first content with Lunastein and Sonnfel. Both also visually represent a sun and a moon. You can read the following comments on reddit (via reddit.com):

  • ZekromFPS: “After Willow and Rhi teased Solgaleo and Lunala, I think it’s an unannounced thing about what will follow.”
  • Tymcc03: “This definitely feels like a teaser.”
  • iluvugoldenblue: “Ultra sun/moon reference?”
  • poppukonvision: “I think it’s great when they do surprise events. I hope it means something.”
  • Rethramine: “They definitely point to Lunala and Solgaleo, there’s no doubt about that. That’s a big clue.”

What’s more, this isn’t the first time Niantic has hinted at the next – Season with such an unannounced event. Even before the start of the ALoLa – Season , Pokémon GO had ALoLa Kokowei spawning everywhere to give the first hints about the next – Season . So it would also be conceivable with this mini-event.

Whether the upcoming – Season will actually revolve around the universe and the sun and moon, however, remains to be seen for the moment.

How do you like the surprise after the big GO Fest finale? Are you guys looking forward to Lunastein and Sonnfel? And do you think this is a hint for the next – Season ? Feel free to post your thoughts here on MeinMMO in the comments and share them with other trainers.

In the coming weeks, you can expect several events in Pokémon GO. The first dates for the Community Days in September, October and November have now been set. We show them to you.
