Microsoft buys Blizzard – No Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 for PS5? – eSportsNews eSports Overwatch

Microsoft has bought Blizzard. Already there are fears that games like Diablo IV will no longer come to the PS5. Such fears would not come true for the time.

This is what happened: In a surprising move, Microsoft has bought Activision Blizzard. Activision Blizzard includes brands like Call of Duty and WoW, but also and Diablo 4. And it is here, after the acquisition, that there are fears that the two hotly anticipated games might not come for the PS5. Because it wouldn’t be the first time that Microsoft cancels games for the competing console.

Microsoft had bought Bethesda and excluded games for Playstation

What is the situation? Microsoft bought Bethesda for $7.5 billion and in the same breath introduced new games. And already when Bethesda was bought, there was concern from users that some games would no longer be released for the PS5. And in fact, the users were not wrong:

After the purchase of Activision: Blizzard by Microsoft, there are now similar fears. Because many believe that they will suddenly never play big games like Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 on the PS5. In the podcast, we analyzed the biggest purchase of in the breaking process:

Are Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 no longer coming to the PlayStation?

Is there an official statement on this? In an official blog post, Xbox had welcomed the new company.

In this context, Microsoft had also stated that they would continue to support the existing communities. Thus it is said: Activision Blizzard’s games are played on a variety of platforms and we plan to continue to support these communities in the future. At least for now, that sounds like Blizzard’s games will continue to appear on the PS4 and PS5. Nevertheless, an expert had already stated during the Bethesda deal that exclusive games for the Xbox were not unlikely.

However, Microsoft has not focused much on exclusive titles so far. For example, the new Minecraft Dungeon will also be released for the Playstation. As the owner of developer Mojang, Microsoft could have released the game only for Windows and Xbox. It is possible that Microsoft expects other advantages from the Bethesda purchase and does not want to rely on exclusive titles in the end.

In the future, Blizzard exclusive titles are also to come for the PS5

According to the online magazine Bloomberg, Microsoft already has plans for the future. Thus, some games are to appear for both the Xbox and the PlayStation 5. However, there are also supposed to be exclusive plans for some titles. However, there is no more detailed information yet:

Microsoft plans to continue producing some of Activision’s games for PlayStation consoles, but will also develop some content exclusively for Xbox.

Microsoft had also stated in the same blog post that it planned to expand Game Pass with games from the new studios:

Upon completion, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as possible in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from their catalog.

We can’t tell you if that means some new games from Blizzard might be exclusive to Xbox and PC in the future. However, MeinMMO will keep an eye out for you and report if anything happens.

The Game Pass is now worthwhile for many gamers anyway: for €10 a month, you get a very wide range of games, which includes full-price titles or new releases. Meanwhile, even EA’s games are integrated, which you can play with Game Pass at no extra charge.
