Maps Counter Strike – Vertigo

Maps Counter Strike - vertigo , or Fear of Heights , is a bomb scenario map from Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive . It takes place on the top floor of a skyscraper that is still under construction. After years of being exclusive to Counter-Strike , Vertigo was also released for Global Offensive , appearing shortly after the game’s release in October 2012.

Construction

Basically, Vertigo is divided into an upper and a lower level. The terrorists spawn on the lower level, while the counter-terrorist spawn and the two bomb sites are on the level above. There are three ways the terrorists can get to the upper level. Right next to the terrorist spawn there is a ladder that takes you straight to Bomb Site A. This ladder leads to a small gap behind the door of which is bomb site A, which is directly adjacent to the counter-terrorist spawn. The clear disadvantage of this route is that the anti-terrorist unit can hole up in this area and throw grenades down without any problems. Furthermore, the ladder can only be reached if a player kneels down to let his comrades climb over him. The other paths are the ramp and some kind of stairwell. But the ramp in particular offers the terrorists relatively little cover, while the anti-terrorist unit can position itself well at both points.

development

The original Vertigo was created by Chris “Barney” Auty , one of Counter-Strike ‘s most prolific map creators, and was released with Beta 1.1. The map’s textures were created by von Telnets and J0esm0e, who largely adopted them from Half-Life , on which the Counter-Strike 1.6 mod was based at the time.

Global Offensive

After Vertigo was not used in Condition Zero and Source , the card was first used again in Global Offensive . Valve made some minor changes to Vertigo for this. In particular, the two levels of the map were made a bit brighter due to larger outer areas at the bomb sites, among other things, and the entire map was designed with far more detail. The area near the ramp has also been changed to allow terrorists to advance a little better and now has two possible paths to bomb site A and two additional ladders so that the terrorists do not have to walk down the ramp completely uncovered.

Vertigo did not appear with the release of Global Offensive , but was added after it was announced on September 28 , along with Monastery .

trivia

  • In the original Counter-Strike , the map takes place according to the scenario on the fictional Rizzleton Tower, which the terrorists intend to blow up before it is completed.
  • The blue toilet stalls by the map’s stairs and ramp can be entered and locked in Global Offensive , but are not bulletproof.
  • In the final version of Counter-Strike , “Valve” can be seen written in blue on some of the walls. Valve released the former modification in 2000.
  • If you jump off the skyscraper on Vertigo, you die instantly in Counter-Strike and the corpse disappears. In Global Offensive you only die after a few meters, while the corpse falls to the end of the map. In addition, you cannot throw the bomb off the building in GO. Even if you jump with her, she flies back to the next landing.
  • In Counter-Strike , via Noclip, you can look directly under the marking of bomb site B into a room in which the names of Chris Auty (and his e-mail address at the time) and telnets as well as a picture of a cat can be seen. However, the name of J0esm0e, whom the official version 1.6 mentions as another creator of the textures, cannot be read there.
