Maps Counter Strike – Thunder

Maps Counter Strike - Thunder is a discarded hostage scenario map from Counter-Strike , set in a hydroelectric power station. For Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , the map was remade by H.Grunt , submitted to the Steam Workshop , and was part of Operation Payback from April 25 to August 31 . This temporarily reinstated the map into the official CS map canon.

Construction

Thunder takes place in a hydroelectric power station and is divided into an indoor and outdoor area. The spawns of the factions are located in the interior area, which are connected to subdividing sub-areas via the generator room or a parallel corridor. In the control room of the power plant is the terrorist spawn, which is also where the hostages are located. The dam of the power plant itself makes up the outer part of the map, which has two different levels and also connects both spawns. On the dam are two of the hostage rescue areas, the third is in the counter-terrorist spawn. Both teams have access to three monitors, which can be used to monitor three different areas of the map on three security cameras. Through them one can monitor the dam, the control room and the generator room.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

For the remake of the map, the basic structure of the original was taken over. However, there were some technical changes. Among other things, the additional hostage rescue areas have been removed, more cover options have been installed on the dam and the map has been expanded to include two air shafts. In addition, the loud sounds that were played on the dam and in the generator room have been reduced or removed, and the interactive elements, i.e. the security cameras, have been removed.

development

Counter Strike

Thunder was created by Chris “Barney” Auty and was only an official part of the game up to version 1.3 of Counter-Strike . [2]Even though Thunder was designed to be a varied and balanced map, the gameplay was different. One of the map’s biggest problems was considered to be the two hostage rescue areas on the dam that were too close to the hostages. Due to the proximity to the area, the anti-terrorist unit hardly used the other two points, which is why most games went the same way. Another problem with the map was the outer area with its causeway, which, due to its length and straight course, could easily be controlled by snipers and was therefore avoided. Ultimately, the map, the original version of which was never completed, was removed from the game.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

One of the Steam Workshop’s top-rated , it was temporarily added to the game’s official map canon on April 25, 2013, with Operation Payback. For the remake of Thunder, the creator H.Grunt wanted to fix the balancing errors of the original map in order to make a more balanced gaming experience possible.

On February 17, 2014, it was announced that Thunder would again be part of an upcoming Operation for the game, as the map had received enough votes from the community. It was also revealed that the map was played an average of 41,181 rounds a day during Operation Payback, of which the terrorists won 53.00% of the time. [3] From February 20 to June 4, 2014, she was part of Operation Phoenix .

trivia

  • Some elements of Thunder were reused for the Prodigy map , since they are partly similar.
  • In the original version of Thunder, the associated power plant was called “Yenrab Wasserkraftwerk” and was located in Russia, while in the version of Global Offensive it belongs to the fictional German company “Harz”.
