Cobblestone or Cobble is a bomb scenario map from Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which takes place in a castle. The map appears in all parts of Counter-Strike released so far. For Global Offensive, it was released with the Winter Offensive update and added to Operation Bravo after the fact, but passed into the normal map canon after the operation ended.
Development
Counter-Strike
The original version of Cobblestone was created by David Johnston.
Global Offensive
A remake of Cobblestone was developed by Valve for the Christmas update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and was first introduced on December 13, 2013. Valve had made some changes for the remake to make the game fairer for terrorists but also to make it fit the competitive mode. Cobblestone was released shortly thereafter with the accompanying Winter Offensive update on December 18, 2013, along with the Overpass map.
Between December 18, 2013 and January 20, 2014, the map was also part of Operation Bravo, although it was added to it after the fact. At that time, it could only be played by owners of the Operation Bravo pass. After some time, however, it also entered the normal card canon.
Trivia
David Johnston, the developer of Cobblestone, also developed the popular maps Dust and Dust 2.
The fact that Cobblestone’s file name is “de_cbble” is because longer file abbreviations were not possible at the original time Cobblestone was created.
In CS, the castle on Cobblestone was still the seat of an English-speaking nobleman named Lord William. In CS:GO, however, it is a museum in a French-speaking country.
