Rust is a small multiplayer map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, based on the campaign mission Endgame.
Description
The battle takes place between Task Force 141 and the Afghan OpFor. The map is located on an oil rig in the middle of the desert. It is larger than Shipment from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but still the smallest map in Modern Warfare 2. There is a large tower and a lot of open space with few places for cover, such as containers and pipes. To get on top of the tower in the middle, there is a ladder and two pipes, and from the top you can see the whole area below. In the corner there is another elevated area that can be reached via the pipes. Behind this place there is a small tunnel, the only place that offers a little protection from air attacks. Furthermore, the tower has two hidden tunnels, one by the ladder and one on the side, which are very dark and small and can be used by quiet players to surprise enemies.
Rust is the successor in spirit of Shipment from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. While the structure is different, both are very small maps with a square design. This is also one of the more flexible maps in multiplayer. While weapons aimed at short range work best, assault rifles, light machine guns and semi-automatic sniper rifles also prove their worth. Since the map is so tiny, players often spawn very close to each other. Sometimes enemies from different teams even spawn in direct sight of each other, creating quick kills. Places where campers hang out don’t happen often because every place on the map is so easily accessible.
For the most part, this map is very unpopular because “spawn camping” is often practiced, plus grenades are thrown through the air like crazy and the use of grenade launchers is also frequent. However, skilled and experienced players can easily counter these methods. Although it is easy to get a high amount of kills on Rust, the map is usually skipped for a larger one.
This is a good map if the player wants to get as many kills as possible in a match, as long as they don’t care how many deaths they get, because the tight combat and rather tiny size of the map mean that in most cases you won’t be able to build up a high kill streak because you’ll get taken away quickly.
Rust is a map where many launch series work almost perfectly. As an example, you can mention the AC-130 or the helicopter gunner, which give the player a lot of kills quickly. The stealth bomber covers the entire area of the map and it’s almost impossible to dodge the bombs unless you’re under a solid object, where you’ll still be paralyzed for a short time. Since the combat is extremely fast and in a confined space, it’s hard to earn these series of kills.
Info
- Near the river is an upside-down Zodiac. This is an allusion to Soap and Price’s fight against the Shadow Company in Zodiacs, also taken from Endgame.
- When Soap is taken to the helicopter at the end of the campaign, Rust can be seen in the background.
- The crashed helicopter is the same one from the multiplayer map Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
- Near the river is a strip of land where there are two Opel Blitz from World War II, two Russian ZPU-4 anti-aircraft guns and a Russian T-54-55 tank. The Opel Blitz are painted with African desert colors, possibly a remnant from Call of Duty 2.
- Far away from the map is a small town that can be seen when you switch to spectator mode in a private match. In the town, there are barrels with impressive warnings about poisonous contents.
- In the same way, far away from the map, you can explore a house with ladders and chairs.
- Outside the map there are various boulders floating in the air.
- Near the oil rig there is a red wall. Everything you shoot, throw or fire into it passes through it and disappears, but the player can’t get through.
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
