The mid– Season Battle League in Pokémon Go is now bringing back the Love Cup to trainers*. Until March 22, you get triple stardust for victories.
Update 03/16/2022: Normally, the Pokémon GO Love Cup only runs on Valentine’s Day. However, the battle league is currently taking a break in the game, which does not mean that there are no PvP battles. Instead, the leagues are currently alternating and now the Love Cup is also active again. From March 15, trainers can compete against each other in the Pokémon GO Love Cup. From March 22, the Love Cup will be over again. You should definitely take the Love Cup with you, because currently there is three times as much star dust for victories as usual.

First reported Feb. 8, 2022: San Francisco – February is traditionally celebrated as the day of lovers – Valentine’s Day. The day is also always a special event in Pokémon GO, because there are usually especially cute monsters to catch. In addition, trainers have been able to compete against each other in the Love Cup in February for several years now, and this year is no exception. We reveal what the best Pokémon and teams are for the Love Cup in February 2022.
Pokémon GO: Love Cup – All about rules and times of the PvP League
What is the Love Cup? The Love Cup is one of the limited formats in the GO Battle League. This means that the Love Cup is not available all the time, but only at a selected time. In this way, the developer from San Francisco always brings some momentum to the PvP battles in the game. In addition to the maximum competition points, which may not exceed 1,500 WP, there is another special rule for the Love Cup. All participating Pokémon must be red or pink. The rules of the Love Cup at a glance:
- Maximum WP must not exceed 1,500
- Pokémon must be red, pink or pink
When will the Love Cup take place? This year, the Love Cup will take place from Monday, February 7, at 10 p.m. to Monday, February 21, at 10 p.m. local time. So fans have two weeks to compete against each other in the Love Cup. This means that the Love Cup will take place at the same time as the Valentine’s Day event in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO: Love Cup – These are the best Pokémon
These are the best attackers: Many trainers rely on Pokémon with charm in the Love Cup in Pokémon GO. For this reason, many trainers now open the battle with Fire Pokémon. This is a good choice, especially if the fire attacker has flight as a second type. Then it is also strong against any combat attacks.
However, many now counter the Fire attacker with Water Pokémon. So trainers* should also consider Electric monsters. Schlurp is also a good choice as a Water counter, as it can learn the powerful plant attack Leaf Scourge. In addition, the Normal Pokémon is extremely tough and therefore harder to defeat. Below you will find a list of the best Pokémon. All attacks that we marked with a star could only be learned during special events and are now only available via top TM. These are the best attackers for the Love Cup:
Fiaro | Incinerate*, dive and nitro charge |
Shuffle (XL) | Licker, bodyslam* and leaf flagellum |
Mamolida | Cascade, psychokinesis and hydro pump |
Magcargo | Cremation, rock tomb and heat exhaustion |
Glurak | Wingbeat, dragon claw and lohe cannonade |
Meditalis (XL) | Counterattack, increase blow and psychokinesis |
Cerapendra | Poison blow, mud bomb and cross shears |
Golking | Poison Strike*, Ice Storm* and Percussion Drill*. |
Galar-Lahmus | Poison blow, mud bomb and focus blast |
Knuddeluff | Charm, ice ray and hugger |
Chaneira (XL) | Zen headbutt, psychokinesis and hyperbeam |
Lektroball | Volt change, charge surge and hyper beam |
Milotic | Cascade, surfer and hyperbeam |
Parfinesse | Charm, psychokinesis and thunderbolt |
Pixi | Charm, star stroke and psychokinesis |
Irokex | Counter, parasite and increase blow |
Ariado’s | Poison sting, poison prank and attack |
Burmadame (rag disguise) | Confusion, iron skull and beetle buzzing |
Magbrant | Karate chop, fire chop and thunder bolt*. |
Corasonn (XL) | Blubber, rock throw and blubber jet |
Castellith | Catapult, cross shears and hail of stones |
Lohgock | Counter, fire sweep and swoop |
Shardrago | Dragon rod, dragon claw and night slash |
Flampivian | Incineration, hail of stones and heat exhaustion |
Parfi (XL) | Charm, thunder lightning and thieves kiss |
Be sure to use these Pokémon: Fiaro clearly dominates the Love Cup, as it is a strong Fire and Flight type attacker and is extremely strong, especially against Giflor, Meditalis, and Irokex. In addition, Fiaro can attack extremely fast, provoking your opponents to quickly use their shields.
Schlurp is also a good choice for the Love Cup, as it is an extremely tough Pokémon. It can also attack very often with Bodyslam, making it dangerous for your opponents. It also wins duels against Giflor, but also against Milotic, Pixi and Mamolida.
Pokémon GO: Love Cup – With these teams you’ll beat them all
The best strategy for the battle: When fighting in the PvP League, it is recommended to use a specific strategy. Thus, your chosen team should consist of a lead, a switch and a cover:
- Lead: The Lead Pokémon is the first attacker in battle and should be effective against the most popular monsters of the Love Cup. In the best case, you can use your Lead to flatten the opponent’s first monster or force your opponent to switch Pokémon.
- Switch: This Pokémon should be an all-rounder that has common counters against the most popular leads and can defeat other monsters as well. This monster should be chosen when you have no other effective Pokémon.
- CoverCover : Your Cover should protect your Lead, so it should be your attacker’s bodyguard. This Pokémon should therefore compensate for the weaknesses of the Lead Pokémon.
The best teams in the Love Cup: There is no clear-cut team that will win every match in Love Cup. However, you can put together teams that will make it difficult for your opponents to defeat you. We suggest the following teams:
Lead | Switch | Cover |
Fiaro | Schlurp | Mamolida |
Fiaro is among the best leads in the Love Cup, as it belongs to the Fire and Flight types. This makes it good against Plant and Battle Pokémon like Giflor or Meditalis. Watch out for Magcargo and Castellith, as Fiaro loses these duels. Against Magcargo, you can use Mamolida, while Schlurp is your tank. The Normal Pokémon is extremely tough and also loses duels against Magcargo.
Lead | Switch | Cover |
Mamolida | Pixi/Feelinara | Glurak |
You can beat many trainers’ strategy of using a Fire Pokémon first with this team. If you face Fiaro, Glurak, or Magcargo as opponents, you have a solid counter with Mamolida. The Water Pokémon is vulnerable to Giflor, Irokex, and Meditalis. As a cover, you can use Glurak or Fiaro: both Pokémon of the types Fire and Flight. As a switch, we recommend Feelinara or Pixi, which are good counters against Pokémon like Irokex, Meditalis or Lektroball.
Lead | Switch | Cover |
Meditalis | Lektroball | Schlurp |
As a final lead, you can also start with Meditalis, which is effective against Mamolida, Giflor, Schlurp, Magcargo, and Irokex. Meditalis is vulnerable to flying attacks as a battle type, so you can counter Firao and Glurak with Lektroball. Pixi and Feelinara are also effective against Meditalis. For the two Fairy Pokémon, Schlurp is a good counter and stable tank.
