The Los Angeles Thieves, behind which is the eSports organization 100 Thieves, was in the Stage 4 Major of the CDL 2022 got their first taste of the gold medal when they beat the New York Subliners in the finals. That success was the temporary culmination of a steady improvement in performance over the course of the – Season , but they climbed to even loftier heights when they won the title at the finals in recent days (August 4-8, 2022).

In front of a home crowd in Los Angeles, the Thieves picked up a narrow 3-2 win over Boston Breach to advance to the semifinals of the finals. There, the team surprised everyone with a dominant 3-0 victory over OpTic Texas – that organization formed from the merger of two of the discipline's most historically successful teams and entered the playoffs as the regular– Season runner-up. The winner of the regular – Season awaited in the Upper Bracket Final, Atlanta FaZe, on the Thieves.

Duels with Atlanta FaZe

The FaZe Clan-owned team is the most decorated organization in the CDL's young history, taking the runner-up spot once and the championship once. It was a huge shock when Los Angeles prevented Atlanta from making the final at the Stage 4 Major – it became the first Major final ever to be held without FaZe's involvement. At the same time, it seemed to have been a preview of things to come.
