LoL: There are over 30 German professional players

When you think of pro players in , players from Korea or China probably come to mind first. But when it comes to Western players, Germany is one of the strongest nations and has already sent 12 players to world championships. We reveal how players stand in LoL and which ones you should definitely know.

How does Germany compare internationally? In general, e-sports in LoL is dominated by teams from China and Korea. Since – Season 1, no team from the West has won the World Championship. Accordingly, the players from these regions are well known.

But even from Germany there have been more than 30 LoL pros who have made it to either the highest American or highest European division. This makes us the European country with the most LoL pros ever, as the Twitter user ExpressLoL vividly shows:

  • There have been 30 different German pros playing in the LEC so far, which puts us in 2nd place in the LEC rankings. Only Korea has had more players so far (40).
  • In the LCS, 7 German pros have played after all (6th place of all nations in the LCS), although there is a lot of overlap here, such as Abbedagge or PowerOfEvil, both of whom have played in both Europe and America. By the way, most EU players in the LCS come from Denmark, 12 of them were active here (via Twitter).

A total of 14 players from Germany have already participated in a World Championship in LoL and two were even able to win it: Manuel “LaMiaZeaLoT” Mildenberger and Peter “Mellisan” Meisrimel. Both competed for Team Fnatic in the first – Season , but stopped their professional careers in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Thus, Germany is in a good position in terms of participation in the Worlds. Only the countries China, Korea, USA, Canada and Taiwan could send more different games to the World Championships. Denmark, by the way, has 14 different players, just like Germany.

In this article we would like to introduce you to 5 players you should definitely know, as they are among the most successful players on the scene. Some of them are still active, others have already left their great years behind.

Nyph

Nyph 2013 in a video from SK .

Who is this? Patrick “Nyph” Funke was born in 1990 in Kirchheim unter Teck near Stuttgart. His gaming roots were in games like Anno, The Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft.

Back in 2011, he started his career as a supporter for Team GAMED.DE.

Which teams has he played for? At the end of 2011 Nyph moved from GAMED to SK Gaming. He spent 2.5 successful years there. After that, he moved to Alliance in 2013. He was loyal to the team, which later changed its name to Elements, until May 2016. However, in 2015 he briefly took the role of coach, but then returned to the role of supporter.

For one year, from 2016 to 2017, he took on the role of coach at Schalke 04. It is not known exactly what Nyph has been doing since then, however, it seems that he continues to be involved with the e-sports team Alliance, but no longer in the LoL department.

How successful was he? Nypth participated in the World Championships in LoL three times:

  • Already in 2011 reached with the team GAMED.DE the 6th place at the first World Championship.
  • With SK Gaming it was only enough for place 11/12 in 2012.
  • In 2014, he again managed to qualify for the Worlds with Team Alliance. There it was enough for the places 9 to 11, which they shared among other things with SK Gaming.

However, he could not win a major title internationally or nationally.

Broken Blade

Who is this? Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik was born in Turkey in 2000 and has dual citizenship. He takes the role as a toplaner and was the first Turkish player to play in the LCS.

Broken Blade became known in 2018 when he moved to TSM. In 2020 he returned to Europe and played one – Season for Schalke 04.

For the upcoming – Season he is under contract with Team G2 Esports.

How successful was he? While TSM’s first – Season in 2019 was rather disappointing, Broken Blade won the Summer Playoffs of the LCS in 2020. This also secured TSM an appearance at Worlds, where they were disappointingly eliminated with 0 wins and 6 losses in the group stage.

Amazing

Amazing 2018 at its presentation at Schalke.

Who is this? Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider was born in 1994 in Bocholt and was one of the longest LoL professionals ever. His career started in August 2012 and went until November 2019, when he was also still actively playing in the LCS.

He was a jungler for the respective teams.

Which teams did he play for? Amazing has been on the road for a few teams in his career, switching back and forth between Europe and America in a lively fashion. He played for Copenhagen Wolves, TSM, Origen, Fnatic, Schalke 04 and 100 Thieves.

However, even after his career ended, he remained loyal to LoL.

From 2019 until the end of 2021, he took on a coaching role at Misfits Gaming. It is not yet clear where he will be moving to for the coming – Season .

How successful was he? Amazing reached the Worlds twice:

  • In 2014 he made it to the round of 16 with the American team SoloMid
  • In 2015 he even reached place 3/4 with the European team Origen

His biggest achievements besides the Worlds were winning the Intel Extreme Masters 10 in San Jose with Origen and the MVP title in the 4th week of the Summer Split in the LCS. However, it was not enough for a major national title in the LEC or LCS.

Upset

Upset at his 2017 performance at Schalke.

Who is this? Elias “Upset” Lipp is currently one of the biggest German talents in LoL. He was born in 1999 and has been playing in the LEC since 2017.

Which teams has he played for? Upset’s career began in 2016 with Team Mysterious Monkeys, shortly before Broken Blade joined the team. After a few moves to smaller teams, he landed at Schalke 04 in 2017. With the team, he managed to get promoted to the LEC and remained loyal to Schalke until 2019.

Following that, Upset played one – Season at Origen and moved to Fnatic at the end of 2020, where he is still active now.

How successful was he? In 2020, Fnatic was able to secure the second place in the 2021 Summer Playoffs and Upset played a big part in that. This success led to participation in the Worlds at the same time.

However, Upset had to leave from the Worlds before the first match due to family reasons, which led to some usual rumors. So officially there was no participation in the Worlds, but this is still Upset’s big dream.

PowerOfEvil

Upset 2019 at TSM.

Who is this? Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage was born in 1997 in Bad Soden, Germany and played games like Warcraft 3 and Age of Empires 2 during his childhood.

In League of Legends he is one of the strongest midlaners in the world.

Which teams has he played for? PowerOfEvil started his professional career in 2013 with Team Mistral. Then in 2014 he played for Unicorns of Love. After brief stops at Origen and Misfits Gaming, he moved to America in 2017.

There he played for OpTic Gaming, CLG, FlyQuest and TSM. He will spend the upcoming – Season with Team Immortals, also in the LCS.

How successful was he? PowerOfEvil has been to the Worlds in LoL twice:

  • In 2017, he reached the quarterfinals of the Worlds with the European team Misfits.
  • In 2020 he was narrowly eliminated in the group stage with FlyQuest, after 3 wins and 3 losses.

He also had some success at national level, but did not win any title. With Misfits, for example, he reached 2nd place in the Summer Split 2017, with FlyQuest it was also “only” enough for 2nd place in 2020.

In 2021 he managed to get the first place in the group stage in the Summer Split with TSM. But in the final Championship, to qualify for the Worlds, it was only enough for 4th place.

One could have mentioned a few more players at this point. Like Norman “Kaiser” Kaiser, the current support of MAD Lions and also a participant in the Worlds, Felix “Abberdagge” Braun, who led 100 Thieves to the Worlds this year, or Peter “Yellowpete” Wüppen, who in the early days of LoL 2013 with the team CLG EU provided for many exciting and entertaining matches and was also a participant in the Worlds in 2013.

That’s why we simply ask you: Which German player is your favorite? And which LoL players do you like in general? Feel free to write it in the comments.

YouTuber HandOfBlood has now founded a new e-sports team himself. With Eintracht Spandau he wants to create a team for the Prime League, which should get a fan culture like soccer clubs:
