In League of Legends, the most valuable player of the LPL was crowned in China: it is 25-year-old South Korean Rookie. The poor man has been in the shadow of Faker for 9 years, but in 2022 he trumped big. He managed to lead the team “Victory Five” from the last place in the league to the best place.
Who is Rookie?
- Rookie is a South Korean who has always been compared to “Faker”, the other great midlaner from South Korea. Rookie earned the nickname “Faker Junior” early on because he had such strong mechanics and a champion pool as large as the equally old but much more famous Faker, who became a 3-time world champion at a young age.
- Rookie played only one year, from 2013 to 2014, in his native South Korea. In 2014 came the “great Korean exodus”: a new rule banned “second teams” from clubs in South Korea and many talented young South Koreans moved to China to find new jobs. Besides Rookie, Doinb also ended up in Chinese LoL league, LPL, and from then on earned his hot meals there.
- Rookie was “the” face of Invictus Gaming for years and played there for 7 years. Rookie had his most successful year in 2018: that’s when he became the world champion with Invictus Gaming, the first time a team on. China won the LoL World Championship.

Why does he become MPV now of all times? In 2022, Rookie’s time at Invictus Gaming was over. He moved to Victory Five. The team is owned by the son of a Chinese multi-billionaire.
Rookie’s new LoL team had played a terrible round in the summer of 2021. They lost all 16 games and ended up in last place in LoL.
Taiwanese Karsa is currently considered one of the best junglers in the world. He is Rookie’s new teammate at Victory Five.
Obviously, it could not go on like this. The team replaced virtually the entire squad:
- Rookie came from Invictus Gaming
- They also brought in Karsa (25), a husky jungler from Taiwan who had previously played at Top Esports
- The rest of the team was also replaced: A total of 6 new players joined Victory Five, also new coaches were added
What followed was a hell of a year for Victory Five: at 14-2, they are in first place in the league. The reigning World Champion Edward Gaming is only in 2nd place at 10-6.
And Rookie was clearly the league’s most valuable and best player. He has posted a KDA of 7.52, nabbed the individual MVP title 10 times and played 15 different champions.
So even after 9 years in the league, “Faker Junior” has the large champion pool and mechanics that earned him the nickname.

What could happen in 2022? After many weak years, Faker of all people is now back and has gathered a strong team around him:
- T1, Faker’s team, has become the strongest team in South Korea
- just as Rookie has had a hell of a – Season with Victory Five
The two old rivals could decide between themselves who takes the international titles in 2022. Faker has strong support for this:
