The Strauss Prime League in League of Legends saw probably the closest match in many years on February 3. Eintracht Spandau, the team of HandOfBlood, met GamerLegion. They had won all 9 games so far. Eintracht Spandau was very close to a miracle, but in the end two Auto-Attacks were missing for the victory.
What happened there?
- GamerLegion was the clear favorite in the match. After winning 9 of their first 9 games, they were on course to set a league record, which had previously stood at 10 straight wins for MOUZ.
- Eintracht Spandau, on the other hand, had a weak start and even suffered a bitter defeat in the Berlin derby. They were only 4-5 before the match.
- But this round was very balanced over the whole time. HandOfBlood’s team was even ahead in gold for a while and managed to secure an important Baron at minute 35.
- After the Baron, they pressed into GamerLegion’s base, destroying two inhibitors. Then at minute 37, Pride charged into the enemy base and destroyed both Nexus Towers. Suddenly everything looked like Eintracht Spandau could win.
- In a final battle for the Baron, Eintracht Spandau again came out on top. With the buff, we then went into a 5v5 team fight at GamerLegion’s base. However, there was no clear focus – opponent or Nexus – which is why Eintracht Spandau ended up losing all 5 players, but the Nexus still had exactly life for one or at most two auto-attacks.
- GamerLegion countered the won team fight and ended the match without further ado due to the high resurrection times.
How close Eintracht Spandau slipped past a victory is shown in this clip:
Players annoyed, but there was also good news
What were the reactions to the match?
The players of Eintracht Spandau gave vent to their anger on Twitter. Toplaner Pride called the match a “sad loss” and Jungler Obsess simply wrote “Such a shit”.
The team’s coach, Christoph “nRated” Seitz also shared his disappointment:
Was there good news too?
Yes. Team WAVE, which had lost all nine games so far, managed to beat EWI, a direct competitor of Eintracht Spandau. As a result, they did not lose touch with places 3 to 6 in the Prime League despite being in 7th/8th place.
In addition, Eintracht Spandau’s players are doing really well in the stats. Toplaner Pride is the player with the most solo kills in the league, Midlaner Special the only one who could get a Quadra kill so far this – Season .
Eintracht Spandau creates huge hype
What kind of team is this anyway?
Eintracht Spandau was founded by YouTuber HandOfBlood and his agency INSTINCT3. They stated as a goal to create more storytelling and more identification in e-sports. At the celebration of their first victory, they already reminded us of soccer fans. In the long term, they also want to compete for the EU Masters, the biggest European tournament behind the LEC.
Already, the team regularly ensures that spectator records for the Strauss Prime League are broken. While 2020 and 2021 saw a peak of between 14,000 and 16,000 people watching, records of over 50,000 live spectators have now been broken. The team also regularly lands in the trends on Twitter with their hashtag:
This is due in no small part to the huge fan support Eintracht Spandau receives. In many cities and regions they have formed small “fan clubs”, like the unofficial association in Lower Saxony and Bremen, Eintracht Spandau Sektion Brandenburg or the Eintracht Spandau Ultras_Austria. We have summarized more about the foundation and idea of the team here: German YouTuber founds E-Sport team – gets directly into highest German LoL league.
