LoL disables all-chat because of toxic behavior – eSportsNews eSports LoL

With the upcoming patch 11.21, brings a big change for the in-game chat. This will disable the ability to interact with opposing players during matches to reduce toxic behavior. However, many players are more afraid of their own team.

What exactly is this change?

Riot Games is currently focusing on improving player behavior in-game. For example, there have already been adjustments to the AFKler issue and how to deal with players who just keep running to their deaths.

The next change is now related to in-game chat. There, the /All chat will be disabled in all modes where you can queue. Custom games, on the other hand, are excluded from the change.

So in the future you won’t be able to write with opposing players in chat during the match. However, emotes and champion masteries will still be visible. After the match, you will still be able to chat with the opposing players in the statistics overview.

MyMMO author Philipp Hansen has experienced this toxic behavior himself:

I played LoL for the 1st time – They really are as mean as everyone says.

The “death of GG EZ”, but the team chat is often worse

How is the planned change received?

Already the deactivation of the all-chat meets a divided echo in reddit. While some players welcome this adjustment, some will miss the exchange with other players:

  • The reddit user Falbindan reports that he has had positive experiences more with opponents: “Some of my best experiences have been with the opposing team. I like starting the game, complimenting my lane opponent on their new skin, and maybe even giving them a few when I see they’re struggling against my main.”
  • User Megachaser9, for instance, will miss the end-of-match sayings, “This is the death of GG EZ.”
  • Even Riot employee “EarthSlug” spoke out against the decision on Twitter, but has since deleted the tweet, saying, “I don’t like criticizing other teams’ decisions at Riot, but I don’t think this is the right decision. Sure, /all can be toxic, but the percentage of games where I enjoy the chat outweigh the bad.”

User Vayatir is also irritated by the change, as players can already disable all-chat on their own if they want to.

A large portion of the comments see a completely different problem in the chat point anyway. Because they experience the toxic behavior not in /All-Chat, but often in their own team.

Where do many players see the real problem?

  • This is how reddit user WeDoDumplings writes: “I can’t remember the last time I was insulted by the opposing team, but I get flamed in 5 out of 10 by my teammates.”
  • Own-Iron-207 also has similar experiences, “Is it just me, or does 95% of toxic behavior happen in team chat? Disabling /all won’t change that.”

For this statement, both users received more than 1,000 upvotes and a lot of encouragement in the comments. Other users also report that the team chat is the much bigger problem. And this could not be simply deactivated so far.

The user Novaeth comes to the following conclusion about the change:

The logic in this decision is probably that they just want to make it appear that a massive change is being made to combat toxic behavior. Anyone who has played multiple games in LoL knows that:

1. Much of the toxic behavior comes from teammates.
2. All chat can already be disabled…

How do you guys see the change to the /All chat? And do you rather have problems with opponents or fellow players? Feel free to post it in the comments.
