A player in League of Legends says Riot Games banned him for two weeks. He had tried the “Supporter Top” strategy, but it had failed. Riot Games interpreted this as sabotage and banned him for two weeks.
What is this new, strong strategy?
League of Legends is currently all about the “Enchanter”, a class of Supporter that heals or buffs other heroes. Normally, Supporters in LoL are played exclusively in the botlane, alongside an ADC that they support, leaving them all the kills and thus the gold.
Supporters have the ability to achieve a constant flow of gold via certain items, even if they don’t get any kills themselves.
“Helped the other team”
What was the player banned for?
The player “Saidenhide” says on reddit that he played the supporter Maokai in the top lane, but left it as early as possible to cause trouble in other lanes and give his team an advantage in the “Objectives”. That, he says, is his style of play in LoL. He calls it a “roaming strategy.”
The player says he usually has a lot of success with this strategy, has won 5 out of 8 games, the strategy has also led him to the “Master Title” in previous – Season s.
But this time the strategy apparently failed: The player was banned for 2 weeks.
When asked if there was anything he could do about the ban, he received an answer from support:
- The ban was done manually
- They looked at the replay again and apparently the player would have tried to help the opponent with Maokai
- He had left the top lane and then hung around in the dragon’s area to avoid experience point and gold
Player speaks of “legitimate strategy” that went awry
That’s what the player says:
He feels he has been treated unfairly. He says that this is a “legitimate strategy”, but that it “ended unhappily” in the game.
He says the strategy is still strong because, although it doesn’t bring much money or EXP, it has a big impact on every single lane in the game.
What are the reactions:
The case actually divides the community:
- One side says: The player is in the right. The ban is unfair, his strategy is legitimate.
- Others, however, say: “If you play with the bull, you’ll get the horns”: the player apparently tried to exploit game mechanics but failed – and everyone reported him because the tactic is considered so unpopular that even his own team hates it. The devil is simply in the details.
Apparently, the top meta won’t last too long. Riot Games has already announced to change it this week. And also the player says that once the nerfs are there, he will play another strategy in the top lane.
