Riot Games has announced some changes for the League of Legends client. In addition to a new lobby and an adapted match history, new customization options were also announced. All of this is to be released before the end of 2021.

What changes? The innovations focus on two things in particular:

• The first is to give players more opportunities to showcase their progress and achievements in the game and stand out from others
• For another, old UI elements will be adapted to showcase these new features

A total of 9 major changes are planned, which should strengthen the players’ own identity and at the same time remove unnecessary elements and texts. However, there will not be a completely new client for the time being, as some players would like.

New personalization options, frames and titles

What can you present in your profile in the future? Riot Games wants to give you the opportunity to customize your account according to your wishes in the future. Especially in the queue and during the loading process, players should be able to stand out with their achievements.

These customizations include the selection of special frames, icons and other new personalization options, including:

• Special titles that you can earn and that are meant to fit your play style
• Identity crystals that change as you progress and are meant to be a sort of footprint of your adventures in LoL
• Banner accents, which will allow you to replace your banners in the loading screens and lobby. However, this innovation is still in an early stage of development.

In addition, an adjustment to the previous prestige levels is planned. So far, you got a new level frame by reaching new prestige classes, but you didn’t have access to the old versions anymore. In the future, you will be able to select them again.

What changes to ranking emblems? In the blog post about the changes, Riot Games emphasizes that the achievements in the leaderboard are an important aspect in LoL, which should also be shown to the outside world. However, it is not yet clear here exactly what adjustments will be made.

What changes to the UI? In the UI item, the lobby, loading screens and game summary will be adjusted. The changes are intended to adapt the game to the art style in 2021 and make room for the new elements that allow players to customize their profile.
