In Valorant a player from a clearly inferior team tried a desperate trick. Faking a message from the developers, he got his naive opponents to voluntarily surrender in a ranked game.
What happened? On reddit, a noticeably angry player posted a post about how they got screwed hard and thus blew a round they thought was safe. They were leading 7:5 and generally better than the opposing team.
This was a great thing especially because it was a ranked game. Every win counts, and if you lose, you can drop in rank and have to fight your way back up. That’s why the fight for victory is particularly fierce here.
But in the middle of the game, a presumed message from the developers suddenly appeared:
Due to recent reports, Riot has now taken action against one of your team members in your current match. Due to Vanguard policy, this match will not affect your current rank and if you quit, it will not affect your matchmaking. We apologize for this inconvenience.
This is what the news looked like in the game.
Players dutifully give up and get angry hard
This is how things went on: In fact, the players from the leading team believed this message and gave up. Later it turned out that it was all fake. The player on the opposing team, who also had the fewest kills, had posted the message in chat and hoped the opponent would fall for it.
Since they did, the game was lost for them and the prankster’s team was saved from possible defeat and loss of rank points. Fittingly, the player who sent the message was also traveling with the agent Cypher, a hero who shines mainly through trickery and confusion.
Here’s how the victims reacted: The mood of the tricked players was very bad. The safe game was gone and there were very well losses in the ranking. In a reddit post, one of those affected lamented loudly:
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. We were in a hard fought game and won 7-5. Your bottom-fragger (Cypher) forged a message in all the chats that said, “Based on recent reports, this game will not count against your MMR and surrender will not affect it.” All I have to say is that I hate life.
On reddit, the player received further ridicule: “This is like when you suddenly see a button on the internet that says ‘You have a virus, click here to get rid of it’.” Another reader simply commented “How is it that all five of you fell for this?”
Still others felt sorry for the victim and showed solidarity. Such tricks are probably quite popular and many a player has fallen for similar actions. But if there is a cheater in the team and he is noticed, some players have a similar attitude. So it once happened that the team got together to troll the cheater until everyone lost.
